Thank God I found this group. Diagnosed with GAD. Started Lexapro per GP's direction with Xanax. Also given Ambien for sleep. It's been 10 days with some improvement but sad I've gone from no drugs to suddenly 3. Worried about long term consequences. Anyone have shared or similar experience with these meds?

You probably don't want to take the ambien for long. It causes weird experiences like waking up and walking and talking to people in the wee hours of the night and not remembering anything the next morning. Xanax is more of a temporary drug also. It covers you quickly but only for a few hours. For nighttime sleep small doses of amitriptyline or quetiapine are often prescribed. Benzos are the ones with long term consequences that you don't want and your Dr. hasn't prescribed. So you're good. I have GAD and have been on benzos for 29 years and I have gaps in my memory that make it hard to hold a job. But my anxiety is under excellent control. Take care and I wish you well.
