My wife, early 80s, has previously had a mitral valve repair, pacemaker fitted, Suffers from AF and takes candesartan, sotalol, apixaban and furosemide. Last week she coughed up blood, called ambulance, admitted to A&E and endoscopy suggested bleeding ulcer in upper GI tract. She was taken off Apixaban to reduce the risk of internal bleeding but this in turn caused a cranial blood clot and stroke while still in hospital. She is currently on road to recovery while we clamour for her admission to the sole stroke rehabilitation unit in the county., if we wished to go
he doctors asked my wife in relation to follow-up, if she wished to go back on Apixaban and take a chance on further internal bleeding or to forego it and be exposed to the risk of a second stroke. She opted to continue on Apixaban: was she right or are there other options?

Difficult situation to be in, what's happened with ulcer, any treatment plan in place. When she stopped blood thinner did bleeding stop quite quickly. I hope it works, all you can do is if any bleeding occurs, stop thinner. I wish you well.
