PE and working

Hi,

I was diagnosed with clots in my lung at the end of July and have been placed on Apixaban for 6 months. I work at sea and was wondering if anyone has been in a similar situation work wise whilst taking anticoagulants? Any help would be great

Hi chev82 my return to work experience has been interesting. I'm office based so mostly meetings and some travel to clients in the local area plus a daily drive to and from work about an hour each way. I am 15 months on from initial diagnosis. So far it has been exhausting. I had two returns to work and both times I ended up with breathing problems and exhaustion. In the end I transferred to a part time role 4 days per week. Mentally this has been very challenging. I have always been very active and used to 15 hour work days. Happily I have now adjusted my ambitions and accepted I will never be the old me. I still take apixaban but feel about 80% my old self, and much more relaxed. I suspect your role would be quite physical ? My experience would suggest you may need to be aware of limited capability but learn to accept that. The good news is I'm still alive ! This is a second chance is how I'm feeling about it all. Just a new phase. I won't be running in the Olympics but hey, I can still play guitar 😀 good luck !

Hi mate thanks for the reply. My job can be a quite physically demanding so thats quite worrying after reading about your return to work. I have occupational health involved and they're awaiting the outcome of my heart scan before any making any decisions. Will have to wait and see how things pan out. My drive to work is 3 1/2 hrs as well. I wasn't Olympic standard before anyway so won't be too worried about any future call ups 😂😂.
