Has anyone gotten an anal Botox treatment? This would be Botox injections to the internal anal sphincter, to help with defecation?
My gastroenterologist has strongly recommended it, and today I met with the surgeon who performs this procedure. It's something I'm seriously considering, but I'd like to know if anyone else has done it. If so, did you experience any nasty side effects - particularly gas or fecal incontinence? Thanks so much!

Hello! I get Botox in my legs. I’m still unsure how much it helps though.
So I’m guessing the purpose of this, would be to relax this sphincter. For me, unless I take something like Restorlax every day and consume lots of fibre and fibre supplements, I would not go for three days at least. Generally, I’m able to manage it pretty good, but with some incontinence as when it’s ready to come out, I don’t have long to get to the bathroom, as I’m not so quick these days!
I think my main concern as with you, would be that it would relax it too much.
Hi Aaron, I ever heard of it, until I saw your post. I put, ‘what is anal botox for?’ Into ChatGPT…interesting. What is your diet like? Can have a big factor. Also, did the doctors mention changing your diet first?
hi mate, my big trouble with defecation vanished after I did colonoscopy. They uses air pressure to reach all difficult to see areas. And in my case they fixed something and now there is a huge difference.
And my diet now: cottage cheese + berries, meat stake + sweet potato. Less chicken, no fast food (exception grilled chicken at McDonalds Caesar wrap). More protein, less sugar and a bit of fat
