Lorenzo's Oil Revisited

Chances are you don't take it. I investigated it thoroughly and even had a decent source secured. I only opted out when I was told it would nullify my medical insurance.

Depending on whatever scientific report you read it either doesn't work, or stops/reverses progression if you start taking it before symptoms hit.

I've just been trawling about the Interwebs looking for AMN news and I had a look at the Wikipedia page for ALD.

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Adren...

Seems LO has competitors.

Adrenomix adds another oil, conjugated linoleic acid.

Aldixyl also adds conjugated linoleic acid , plus "powerful antioxidants at high dosages containing alpha lipoic acid ".

Usual promises of lowering VLCFA levels and imflammation.

I quite like the look of Aldixyl.

Is this news only to me? I thought I knew absolutely everything about everything.

I heared about that before, but was not so attracted, because lowering VLCFA in blood actually doesn't help in our case. All these oils can't penetrate blood-brain barrier and cause no effect on spinal cord or peripheral nerves(

I'm more considering such drugs as PXL770 and VK0214, because they're effective in lowering VLCFA in CNS tissues also, since they work as AMPK activator and Thyroid receptor respectively and may cause overexpression of ABCD2 gene, which may replace broken ABCD1 in its activity. Also Leriglitazone is a great option for reducing inflammation and saving myelin shell.

Found that in one of the research papers:

Sing and Pujol also suggested that treatment strategies should be developed for the inflammatory, metabolic and oxidative stress disease aspects of X-ALD.

We can't help to improve our metabolism to lower VLCFA (beside doing physical exersice, since that cause AMPK activation and may improve metabolism), but we can lower oxidative and ER stress and inflammation by taking antioxidants cocktails (NAC, TUDCA, Resveratrol, Curcumin, Vitamin E, DHA, ALA).

I have to agree with you. VLCFA levels are simply a marker. That's been long established.

Also, ignoring whether the stuff works or not for a minute, the 'dose' is around 70 g per day. That means that you need to cut out an awful lot of fats from your diet to stay below the 70-90 g of fat a day that is recommended.

Depends what "works" means. I am prepared to believe the oils + the antioxidants could have a synergistic effect on us symptomatic people. Though, we are the bigger market, if there is any chance it would help they'd have run some clinical trials.

As far as removing oil from my diet, I was a vegetarian for years. It would be no hardship to go back if it meant easing up my spasticity/spasms.
