Thank you for posting this article. It's obviously quite technical but worth a general browse. The general idea - that getting mitochondria into demylinated axons may be protective - should inspire some scientists, I hope.

I thought this bit from the last paragraph was perhaps the most useful:

"Enhancing ARMD [axonal response of mitochondria to demyelination] ... protects the acutely demyelinated axon. This novel neuroprotective strategy is likely to be applicable to all demyelinating disorders, even when neurons are respiratory chain deficient. Hence, drugs that enhance ARMD are important to protect the vulnerable acutely demyelinated axons, so that regenerative strategies, like remyelination, can be effectively implemented in demyelinating CNS and PNS disorders."
