What I understand is that eating foods rich in Vitamin B complex are good for the brain and the nervous system. I eat a low-fat healthy diet with a lot of red meat. Red meat has Vitamin B12.

Thiamin is Vitamin B1 and it is mentioned in the ALD news article.

Hi artortega

You ask a very specific question - will Vitamin B slow down the progression of AMN?

There is no evidence that it will. If there was, we'd all be making sure we were getting enough right now.

Having said that, because vitamin B helps maintain a healthy nervous system, it's a good idea to eat well. And exercise. The foods suggested by the article can help to do that.

But don't take Thiamin in the hope it will slow AMN. Anyway, how would you measure such a claim in a proper trial?

Best wishes

Chris

Hi Artortega,

I appreciate your sharing of information about healthy eating and use of supplements. I focus on nutrition as my main source of staying as healthy as possible. It's good to know others feel that way. I know there is no perfect answer for us, but good nutrition is a strong step in the right direction. Best wishes.

I eat a healthy diet but have added a B Complex vitamin supplement daily.

I know it won't prevent AMN progression but it might help with natural degradation

I refrain from eating a diet rich with red meat which contributes to a higher risk of colorectal cancer and heart disease. AMN has made me become much more aware of diet, exercise and maintaining overall good health in spite of its horrendous symptoms that fester. Mental health is just as essential which includes meditation, mindfulness, gratitude and yoga.
