Fatigue is kicking my arse!

All jokes aside this fatigue thing is really starting to worsen. Now I do take Modafinil but lately it has not had the same effect. I’m here to ask the collective what else they have used to help. Do any of us have info on Ritalin or Adderall? Any and all guidance will be greatly appreciated.

I tried Concerta for a short time but didn't see any benefit so my doctor and I decided that there was no point in continuing with it. Don't take this as a "you shouldn't try it" thing though because as we all have seen with all medications and with our illness in general we are all affected differently!

Be well and I hope your fatigue improves!

Have you had recent blood test for B 12 levels, iron and specifically ferritin which is your stored iron?

No I have not. My next endocrinologist visit I will ask for those tests. Fill me in on what those numbers should be. What’s do these levels mean for us?

I'm sorry to hear that, Seifert. I too struggle with fatigue on a daily basis. Modafinil didn't work for me. Neither did amantadine. I received a prescription for methylphenidate from my neurologist, and I took it a handful of times. I didn't really like the way it made me feel, and there was a pretty big crash in the afternoon. On top of that, it was strongly advised on another support group that people with adrenal insufficiency (which I have secondary to AMN) shouldn't take methylphenidate, as it rapidly clears cortisol, requiring more and more steroids.

I think that I've pretty much determined that there is no good pharmacological solution to fatigue stemming from AMN and Addison's. No drug is going to make up for the physical and mental fatigue we experience on a daily basis. Some might make you feel more alert, but they're not really reducing the fatigue, they're just masking it. I'm sorry to say this - I wish I had a better recommendation for you. Fatigue is a difficult thing to deal with. You have my sincere sympathies.

Thanks Aaron! I appreciate the info. Especially in regards to the methylphenidate and the adrenals.

I'd certainly try some Methylphenidate. Why not? But I've seen what long term stimulant use does to people.

Release all that energy in such a short period. Can't be good. Then again, it is cheap. Counts for a lot when you have to put your hand into your own pocket.

I wasn't overly impressed with Amantadine but I did notice that when I took it with modafinil it wired me up. That and Noopept. Got me grinding my teeth. Armodafinil as well, woke me up like nothing else.

I'm not really one for gentle, holistic treatments. I like to take a pill and see results within the hour, but ALCAR is really good. A decent lift. Tastes awful. I get it by the kilo. Two grams, four times per day. Well worth a try.

Fatigue is a chronic complaint among Addisonians and I think that with AMN it is worsened by the spasticity. My legs are like concrete and when walking, it feels like I'm dragging a ton.

I do take an afternoon dose of B-12 (2500 mcg).
