I have found a local Otago exercise group and was wondering if anyone had tried it.

Hi Cherie, I have been going to a local class for about 4 years, referred by doctor. I find it very useful helps with balance and co-ordination, you work at your own level. Very popular class for people with mobility problems including some in wheelchairs and always a waiting list.

Worth trying out and interested in how you get on, good luck Sue xx

Thank you Sue. One class is a referral and the other, more local, is a pay as you go. Do you find it is best to go every week? Unfortunately the pay as you go clashes with something else that is on every other week although I could probably get a referral soon as I am also on the list to see a physio and a rheumatologist! Have you ever done an aqua class? The problem I have with swimming pools is getting cold.

Hi Cherie

The Otago class is twice a week and have to be a member at my local Leisure Centre. Therefore I try and make sure I go, if I'm away for a couple weeks notice how hard to get back into it. Our instructor is very patient and concentrates on what is needed to maintain balance and co-ordination.

I also go there for Aqua fit for less mobile and yes it is not a hydrotherapy pool so need to keep moving while in water. Can use spa after to warm up and always have my towel on my rollator at edge of pool. Use hoist to get in pool, no good on steps. I find this the best form of exercise certainly feel it in my legs after, more movement.

Also go to gymn 2/3 times week on stepper, bike and weights.

Hope physio appointment comes through they should be able to advise on best activities.

Good luck Sue x
