Multivitamins and minerals

Hallo, I am new here, 67 years old and have fibromyalgia.

My hair has been thinning a bit for the last few years but about 5 months ago it got worse. When I looked at my hair under a light from above I saw my scalp!!! I panicked, did a lot of research....it is probably due to stress... called alopecia areata.

Solution can only be deal with stress, very difficult when you have to deal with life completely on your own and limited amount on energy. Other possible solutions: nutrition, I eat very well.. problem I drink too much alcohol, one site suggested alcohol can interfere with absorption of Biotin, solution stop drinking alcohol which I can't do because when I stop alcohol I get too stressed.

I started taking the following:

Solgar Biotin 5000ug one a day with food

Solgar Female multiple advanced multivitamins and minerals formula for women one a day with food.

I have also bought a comb that I use in place of my old brush, so that I don't pull too much hair out, literally. Again I did some research and I like the one I have bought, it is a Kent detangling comb from Amazon.

I have noticed a clear improvement, not so much hair in the shower plug hole and there are definitely some fine hairs growing on a small bold patch in my temple.

Have I found a solution for my particular case? I think so, I will keep on taking the vitamins, one thing is sure: my alopecia has not got worse, if it does I will check this site again for other solutions.

I thought my experience may be useful to some of you, I hope so, it is depressing to lose our hair especially if female. I know there are many causes for it and my experience is not applicable to many people.

I have been told that Facebook is a lot busier then this site, but I am not on Facebook.

Hi Stitch05, I'm wondering how you're getting on now. Is the Biotin working? Have you still got regrowth? I'm thinking of trying the Biotin but I'm on so many supplements it's driving me crazy and not going to try something if there's no hope of it working.

Hi Singer57, yes there is definitely regrowth there but keep in mind that there are many causes for hair thinning, was talking with someone who said her problem was lack of iron that was why her hair was falling out. If I were you I would take the biotin. Vitamin Bs need to be taken in conjunction with a multi B vitamin not just a single one that is why I am also taking the multi by Solgar, I have checked other makes like Centrum A to Zinc and found the Solgar contains larger quantities.

I am also taking other supplements, magnesium helps me relax and sleep and so does L-Theanine, also vitamin D3 for immune system.

Hi Stitch05, thank you very much for replying and the advice on taking the multiB vitamin is especially useful. I've had all the blood tests too and am already on iron and vitamin D so I'll add the multiB vits to my pile!!

I've also seen a dermatologist and a trichologist and been told mine is due to telogen effluvium but the regrowth isn't happening. So I just want to make sure I'm giving my body the best chance to produce some hair. If the biotin doesn't work I'll have to resign myself to the loss.

Really pleased for you that you have regrowth, it's great to hear a success story! 😊
