Hi everyone,
I will share a little back story before talking about my little son. Once some was 21 months old in March 2024, when he suffered a burn (hot cup of tea), leading to a partial thickness burn on the right side of his scalp and ears. He received care for this at a burns unit over two weeks, with a shave and regular cleaning, he also was diagnosed with an MRSA infection in the burn area. Anyway that area has now fully healed thankfully. The issue is, about ten days after the burn we noticed a patch of hair loss on his head. A month later another showed up. They also then regrew albeit slowly. Ever since then he has had multiple patches of hair loss that have regrown. Currently he has two patches of hair loss.
Blood test in September showed he is low in ferritin and diagnosed with iron deficiency anemia. Results were at 9. The normal range is 30-150. His MCV was slightly below too. He was prescribed a ferritin supplement for 3 months, he took it for 5 weeks then refused. However he continues to lose hair. His January 2025 blood test showed his ferritin is at 27 now, hemoglobin at 110 (normal is 111-140) for his age.
Please could anyone advise? Why is he losing patches of hair? Is it due to the low iron? He is such a poor eater as well.
