Hi,my name is Katie and I was diagnosed with fibromyalgia about 10 years ago. I believe I got fibromyalgia due to my sons traumatic birth and then 10 years of lack of sleep. I was in an awful lot of pain and discomfort and contstant fitgue. I had to give up sports that I enjoyed and it effected my everyday life and relationships. I would like to share with you today that due to a life style change i have pretty much eliminated my symptoms. What have I done ? I have been on a low carb high fat diet for almost 3 years now. I am no longer in pain, I no longer have a bloated tummy like I am 6 months pregnant and I have more energy than i had when I was 20. I am 47 years old and feel fitter i have felt in a !ing while. It's not an overnight thing, it takes effort and long term determination. I do exercise at least 3 times a week and I bet most of you can't even think of exercising. We all know that exercising no matter how little will help reduce the symptoms. My diet change is radical and not for everyone and I would definitely get advice and evidence of his it could work for you. It has truly changed my life for the better and I would 1000 % recommend for you to at least try it. I truly hope my story give others hope that you do not have to suffer, you can take control back and say goodbye to Fibro!

Hi Katie, sounds great what you are doing. Are you following the Myhill protocol? She advocates a high fat, no carb diet to create ketones, which the mitochondria burn more easily. I have been following it for a while buy not noticed any difference yet. I am on the Autoimmune Protocol anyway, but find it hard to do without the odd portion of rice or sweet potato.

Hello thank you for your reply...not really following any protocol exactly. I got recommended the diet from a friend so researched it and decided to give it a go. it is low carb, high fat and I'm sure I'm running on Ketones. I get most of my recipe ideas from diet doctor.com. I'm now so use to not eating bread, rice, potatoes or Pasta . I also don't eat biscuits and cakes. I do however when I'm eating in a restaurant eat sometimes sweet potato chips. Stick with it if you can, you will start to see results. All the best

Katie

This sounds amazing, what does a daily diet look like for you? Were you advised to try this?

Hello , how are you today? I tried this diet as a close friend was on it and recommended it to me. I researched it first and listened to arguments for and against and decided to go for it. I'm pleased I did, it has been the best thing for me. Like most conditions Fibromyalgia is inflammatry and what we eat e.g. Wheat, Starch, sugar , carbs can have a huge effect on our bodies.. I can never say it would work for everyone but it's got to be worth a try. I honestly believe that most people with Fibro can help themselves better by changing their life style..my daily food consists of anything full fat, natural, very low carb , very low sugar. Nothing processed. Xxx

Hi Fibrokatienomore

So glad to hear you've managed to get your Fibro under control, I did this for 3 and a half years but then caught a virus which knocked me for 6! So trying to desperately to get it back under control again but being diagnosed with ME hasn't helped as exercise tolerance is reduced significantly with ME too.

Thank You for your post it will no doubt be very helpful to our members. I just wanted to mention that at this time Fibromyalgia is not considered to be inflammatory in the general sense hence all inflammatory markers in the blood always seem to come back OK in the diagnosis process. Unless, of course you have a primary condition like Arthritis and Fibro as secondary. I have read some discussions regarding inflammation in relation to the brain but I am unsure at this time whether this is hypothesis or has any research behind it and whether this would be found during blood tests CRP ESR etc.

It could be that eliminating these founds helps due to the fact that the stress on the body is reduced and therefore it improves symptoms maybe? I don't know but I am very glad to hear you too managed to control symptoms so it does not greatly impact on your quality of life.

I would like to mention that my downfall was the virus and I wouldn't like you to suffer the same fate, so I wondered whether taking regular supplements that are supposed to be antiviral might help you to avoid this situation.

Hope this helps

Emma :)
