Blood Clots in Nose

Wondering if this is normal.

Been on Apaxiban for nearly a year now since officially diagnosed with AFib. Apart from bruising being spectacular after simple knocks been no obvious bleeding.

Also started Flecainide 4 weeks ago, first 3 weeks 100mg a day then as still getting bad AFib attacks as was before was told to double it to 200mg a day which did on Wednesday after feeling like death Tuesday with an attack that lasted as usual 20hrs.

Since Friday, I have had blood clots in my nose - nose feels blocked and I blow it and out comes clots and blood, no big bleeds, stops after a minute.

Just wondering if this is anything to contact my doctor about. Seems a small, silly thin,g but I am unsure if this is something to mention as not been given any info on my condition or meds by either cardiologist or my GP, just told what I have and what to take and that is it, so been on a learning curve this past year.

Thanks

Best discuss with your GP. Though anticogualnts don't cause bleeding they can show up minor issues which might otherwise remain hidden (until maybe they became more serious. )

I agree that BobD is exactly right.

I was on anticoagulants and had a weak vessel in my nose which bled and was exactly as you describe with clots and bleeding sometimes heavy, very inconvenient. It seemed to happen when my BP was too high.I had it cauterised in hospital which solved the problem.

Do get it checked by your GP because it makes life miserable.

I've had something similar happen and I'm on other meds as well as Apixaban (also been on it just ovr a year) so thought it was caused by Losartan Potassium tbh. But on further thoughts I think it was caused by Diltiazem and then when that was changed to Amlodapine, it continued. I had horrible scabs in my nostrils too...then they'd fall off and my nose would bleed again and produce clots. I mentioned it to the pharmacist attached to my GP surgery and he said he'd never heard of that side effect. He suggested I take Losartan instead and then 2 weeks later I developed preseptal cellulitis in my eye...that was 7 weeks ago and I'm still not out of the woods. The ophthalmologist asked if I'd had sinusitis and I said no but I explained about my nasal issues and it's possible that was the cause. After a 7 day course of antibiotics my nose problems cleared. Are you on other meds that are calcium channel blockers as they cause allergic rhinitis in some people.

I'm on rivaroxaban and have been getting occasional epistaxis like this for some time when I wake up. Usually it then stops, as long as I don't blow my nose. Medics aware of it but nobody bothered about further action, seems to be a minor blood vessel leaking, exacerbated by anticoagulant. Check it out on Internet and associations with blood pressure and heart conditions. It's not pleasant but in the grand scheme of things, probably not something to worry about.
