hi everyone A biggish lump just appeared on my forearm, with bruising spreading up to my elbow and down to my wrist. It isn’t painful, if I banged it, I don’t remember doing it. Mrs Google says it could be a spontaneous hematoma, which always is worse for those taking aspirin or anticoagulants. I take Eliquis, Apixaban and no other medication. The hematoma is caused by a break in the wall of a blood vessel, vein or capillaries (oh wot joy😬). Google also says a hematoma is similar to a hemorrhage but a hemorrhage refers to ongoing bleeding while the blood in a hematoma has typically already clotted. Just wondered if any others have had this happen. Otherwise, except for one incident, cold water swimming I have AbFib free for nearly 4 years, after ablation by Professor Gupta, LHCH. Thanks everyone x

Hematoma

I would advise you to get this lump and bruise checked by a doctor. It doesn't sound very normal. X
I had one under my arm many years ago, after giving birth so 62 years, no A/F then lol. Hubby was in the RAMC so he dealt with it by applying a poultice several times which in turn released the blood etc., and all was fine. If I had one today I would get it checked out regardless of what Mr Google has to say, as not always right lol
have you called your doctor seen a doctor that should be step one Mrs. Google does not have a medical degree
I too am experiencing a hematoma on my elbow from a recent fall. I stopped taking the Eliquis for the time being. I have never had a large unprovoked hematoma however. Except possibly once with a bleed in my eye. They are ugly for sure. But no pain. I am wondering why you are still on eliquis after being a fib free for 4 years. I am seriously thinking of discontinuing it as my A fib seems to be in remission. Thinking of replacing it with other weaker ones, turmeric etc. as I am experiencing low iron anemia and am wondering if the Eliquis may be a factor. I wu. Ill get scoped soon to see if the is a GI bleed. Getting old is sometimes annoying.
I too only take Apixiban for afib (only med I take). Afib only occurs about once a year which I track with Iwatch and previously implanted loop recorder. I have felt unwell ever since I started taking Apixiban about 5 years ago, but afraid to discontinue for fear of all warnings and threats. I would love to go back to taking all my supplements (Tumeric, etc.) which I took prior to Apixaban and I felt great!
I so look forward to the results of study of taking anticoagulant during and after specific infrequent afib event.
I have never had the hematoma event mentioned here, but definitely needs to be checked out in my opinion.
