Has anyone had bleeds into the skin with Apixaban. I have patches of these ln my lower legs. They are starting to fade but it is a bit worrying Dr. Google says it could be a low platelet problem. Should I discuss it with my GP?

Blood patches on skin
Yes. Platelets are a bit different from anticoagulation (aspirin and clopidogrel affect platelets) and as I always tell people, Dr Google can damage your (mental) health so best talke to your GP.
Yes my husband has but he’s on Dabigatran. He had a none urgent conversation with his GP and concluded that a little bleeding and bruising would be better than a stroke - he’s 87 so his capillary blood vessels are now getting a little fragile anyway.
PS -when was your last blood count? It’s recommended every 6 months.
I get this with Edoxaban. At first I thought I’d got nettled, but it gradually went dark purple and faded after a week or so. Comes back from time to time. No itch, no pain, just mottled and blotchy.
Yes. On my right calf, down near the ankle.
Same here but on both legs. Got a GP appointment ext week so I’ll discuss it the. Thanks.
I get them too with Xarelto, lower legs too. If it's any consolation, I had my annual full blood count a couple of weeks ago,and my platelet count was well within the normal range despite the anticoagulant, in fact everything ,liver, kidneys, thyroid, Cholesterol. Vit D was all fine.
Thank you very much, that very comforting. Have you had them a few times?
Hello Rothwell, I have had the same patches on my feet and ankles, also slight swelling of feet, but my skin went very, very dry, my feet did not feel the same, could not describe the feeling exactly but I know it was so different. I had a visit from a chiropodist who advised me to seek medical assistance urgently, unfortunately in the middle of a pandemic this was not deemed urgent, 4 months later the doctor called me after finally looking at the photos I sent in. I was diagnosed as having vascular dermatitis. Was advised to wear compression socks, which I did for a while, also applied layers of cream.
Pleased to say the problem seems to be abating, no swelling, skin not so dry and the patches are fading but don’t think they will go completely.
Had the pulse in my feet checked recently and it was excellent.
I no longer wear the compression socks and am managing fine.
I am not on the same medication as you, warfarin, sotalol and Ramipril are the main ones. Hope you have a good outcome, try the compression socks as they force the blood back up the legs.
Good luck
Yes I have these on both shins. They look quite alarming. They are leaving a permanent mark now ..not pleasant.
Apixaban. I seem to bruise a lot easier. As I seem incapable of walking through a door without banging myself on both sides I notice them more and more. More especially since I fell off my bike 3 days ago. The colours of an impending storm come to mind.
I get bleeds under the skin from Xarelto, especially when stung by mosquitos or scratched from gardening. I had poison ivy in early summer that left my legs scarred because of bleeds under the skin. Not a big deal as I'm sure they'll fade, but that's what anticoagulants do.
I think that you are describing purpura. I got those all over both forearms with apixaban. It also made my hair fall out. I switched to rivaroxaban and now get the occasional purpura on my left forearm. I mentioned these to my doctors. None of them cared.
Yes I have that, but for about 27 years before I was prescribed Apixaban, so impossible for their to be any connection to the medication. I'm 77 now so I guess it's not going to kill me.
All the best.
Roy
I'm on Edoxaban, my right foot turns purple when I stand up for long and my left foot similar but not so pronounced. Pulse in ankles are good (checked by Heart Nurse) and when I put my feet up or get up first thing i the morning they are normal pink. I think its probably slow circulation due to other heart meds.
