350mg flecanide

hi all

I usually take 300mg as a pip

But accidentally took 7 x 50mg tablets last night

Just counted my pills

I’ve just realised. Any need to panic ? I feel fine and the af has stopped.

no need to panic, I have taken 400 mg regularly without any negative effect, apart from a pre-syncope during the few seconds of reconversion from AF to sinus.

Feeling like fainting due to a short (3 to 4 seconds) pause in heart rate. But not fainting, hence the ‘pre’.

Abbyroza, what do you mean by regularly please? I take 300mg/day (150mg, 12 hours apart) & sometimes wonder if I could take a bit more to have better control. Thanks!!

The maximum dose is 300 mg/day. I took 400 mg ‘regularly’ because I was on 150 mg slow-release Flecainide, and when AF broke through, I took another 250 fast-acting. So on these days I had 400 mg. in total. I would certainly not advise to do that on a daily basis, because it could increase the QTc value too much, even over 500 in my case, which creates the risk of torsades de pointe, a dangerous arrhythmia.

So going above the advised maximum of 300 mg was only approved by my cardiologist for max. 2 days a week.

I take 100mg Flecainide every 4 hours first dose 06.00 am / 2.00pm and 10.00 pm works great for me

That is actually every 8 hours!

The maximum "poison" level of flecainide per 24 hours is 300mg so please don't make a habit of doing this.

Definitely Bob. The real worry for me is now 300mg needed as a pip was 150 then 200 then 250.

The maximum daily dose for Ventricular arrhythmia is 400mg per day so >300mg daily clearly isn't "poison".

That doesn't mean it's fine to take more than your prescribed dose no matter what your dose is - unless directed to do so by your medical professional. If you "overdose" you should seek medical advice ASAP as your response to the higher dose could be different than others. We're all different.

When I was first prescribed Flecainide as a Pip, it was for 100 mg and in the info it said the maximum daily dose was 300mg but things might have changed!

The fact that you took it last night, and you seem fine today. I would think you are ok, but try to be more careful in the future. 300mg is the max dose daily. Since it is only PIP I think you are fine, but you might tell your doctor or pharmacist anyway.
