Hi Everyone hope all is doing ok. I have just been prescribed flecanide for the first time. I took my first dose last Wed of 2x 50mg and felt ok until sun eve when Af started again and lasted a few hrs. Ok Mon through the day but Af started again at 8pm lasting several hrs. My question is do i inform Gp/Cardiolgist about this or does Flecanide take some time to work? Thanks for reading this. Much love.

Hi,are you on a betsblocker such as bisoprolol too? It's recommended . I was put on flecanide ( alone) for AFib and a week later developed atrial flutter, which is quite common if you don't take a.rate control drug alongside it.

I'd contact your prescriber to check xx

Are you also on a beta blocker, my cardiologist said a beta blocker has to be taken if on flecainide. I find flecainide works well for me but doesn’t suit everyone. I would ring my cardiologist or af nurse and ask for advice if I was you. My flecainide had to be upped to 100mg twice a day to keep my af free.. best wishes.

Who prescribed your Flecainide and have you been asked to go for an ECG to check on how your heart is coping with it? That is what usually happens.

Hi Jean, The nurse cardiologist prescribed flecanide along with beta blocker. I am due an ecg in a few weeks. Should i be giving the flec more time to work do you think?

I think I had an ECG a 4-5 days after starting it, just to check it wasn't causing more dangerous arrhythmias. I'd let your AF nurse/cardiologist know what's happening.

Hi this is very similar to my own situation. I have been back in AF since Saturday. Although this morning l think l am having fluttering as my heart rate is not fast but slow 85/60, l am very tired and light headed so have been in bed all day. Trying to speak to my cardiologist but no luck.

I've been taking Flec for a couple of years at 100 mg am and same pm. Been in af for 6 weeks now and addition 100 as pip not working. Seems body gets use to it and no longer effective.

Update on flecanide

Went to a&e and it seems none of the drugs are working to control the rate anymore so they are keeping me in, in view to having an ablation. Is that good news? Im terrified 🥴

I’m on the waiting list for ablation and was told by my cardiologist to stop taking my flecanide as it wasn’t helping my AF and was giving me drastic mood swings and tiredness

Well i am still in hospital, it is 7.45 am, hopefully see a Dr around 10 to find out what they are going to do with me. Get the feeling they are going to persist with the flecanide and hold off the ablation. Anyways fingers crossed they sort me out one way or the other. Cant stop feeling down about the whole thing but must carry on. Have a nice day everyone.
