I wake up sweating and have anxiety every morning. I take 1.25 Bisoprolol and 5mg Apixaban twice a day. I think my cortisol levels are high in the morning. Does anyone else suffer with this and have any advice. I know stress makes it worse but sometimes you can’t avoid it. I also have hypothyroidism and I am taking thyroxine. Many thanks

Bisoprolol
I have some understanding of that feeling.I do a short relaxation each morning or meditation. There are lots of free apps available.
Especially difficult with trying to keep thyroxine levels right I imagine
Thank you for your response. I never had it before taking the medication for AF thought it would be them. Unfortunately I can’t take Omega 3 oil which is meant to help. I do deep breathing which sometimes help.
Hi
What is your TSH? Cat.
I have no thyroid due to Thyroid cancer that caused aF and a stroke.
It is better to be hypo than hyper Cat.
Follow the rules though when taking your thyroxine. 1 hr from breakfasrt, No milk or iron for 4 hours.
I keep my TSH level at 1.7. Over add more thyroxine 25mg over 4 days a month or reduce thyroxine if low TSH hyer.
It takes a bit of balance but you will learn. I'm at 5 years post-op.
I take my 1.25mg Bisoprolol at night as BP and heart rate rise early am. It could be uncontrolled heart rate and only a CCB Diltiazem 120mg CD contrlled it from 156 to 60s Day.

Bisoprolol . I used to get high anxiety as my dose approached and body levels were low, and unfortunately massive anxiety withdrawing from bisoprolol . It’s on my notes not to give me the stuff
I bet it's related to thyroid issues. Cortisol levels fall overnight and are a complex issue, so I wouldn't be focusing on that myself since so much more is going on metabolically when we wake up and become active after sleep.
Bisoprolol affects the heart's rate and output. This change can be felt and any change can cause anxiety, even though in many, it calms them down.

Thank you for your reply. I understand our cortisol levels raise during the night and are at there highest levels first thing in the morning and go down during the day. I always feel worse when I first wake up.
I take 75mg thyroxine and my TSH is in the normal range.
Such a pain, I cannot handle stress at all but we cannot always avoid it as it’s part of life.
It's a tough one and finding out why these odd things happen can be impossible. Has your doctor given any ideas? It certainly must be unpleasant.
You are right that cortisol level are at their highest early morning and lowest around midnight. I had read a good while ago that they dipped around 2-3am which was given as a reason, then, for why that was a risky time for seriously ill people.

No unfortunately the doctors don’t want to know. They just keep trying to put me in more medication this time for anxiety and depression. I don't want to thake anymore tablets, I’m rattling already. I want to do it naturally.
It is sad when doctors see only anxiety and depression as causes. The medication given for this is usually an SSRI drug such as citalopram. I was given it many years ago now but will never forget as it not only failed miserably to help but I reacted very badly indeed to it with quite long term and bad side effects.
If you think these morning issues are from the bisoprolol (and they won't be from the anticoagulant, I feel sure), then maybe ask your doctor if you can stop taking it for a month, say, to see if things improve. Taking it at all is only a way to help reduce the AF symptoms, so if these are not too severe, perhaps stopping it will be an option to try? Of course, it all depends upon your doctors and your AF symptoms.

I wake up sometimes sweating particularly round my neck. I take thyroxine too 87.5mcg . I don't worry about it overmuch. It stops when I get up.
