Shout out to my local hospital and in particular ED team. I am posting via hospital bed in recovery. Presented to Caboolture Hospital QLD, Oz today at around midday today. PIP normally suffice to revert but after 2 days(Flec and Metropolol). I was in NSR but wasn't budging from 120 with a low blood pressure and some breathlessness.
After all blood tests, fluids( including Magnesium) administered still no good. ED doc contacted my cardio specialist at Prince Charles, Brisbane. Consensus was Cardioversion. Coffee an biscuits after successful procedure. Very appreciative of all support, treatment and swiftness of procedure.
Thanks to all concerned. Cheers Cam

Isn't it the most wonderful feeling when your heart is back to normal after a cardioversion - like a miracle.
Take care for a few weeks now and let your heart grow strong beating in it's correct rhythm, don't exert yourself at all. I once went back into AF through walking up a hill the day after a cardioversion. I'd also say don't over-eat or drink alcohol.
I am typing this with AF still chuntering along since 11.30 last night, so nine hours and counting... I never feel any "peace" at all once NSR resumes and it always intrigues me that some do. How different we can all be?
Side effects shown on 24hr Heart Monitor - Breathlessness, Couldn't exert. Day H/Rate 186! At night pauses. It was meant to control my rapid AF H/Rate.
1 year 5 months Heart Specialist I demanded. After stroke no followup.
Changed to Bisoprolol - she said better for AFters.
24hr Heart Monitor. H/Rate Day 156. No breathlessness, no pauses and less fatigue but no control.
= BBs do not control H/Rate only BP and low dose Bisoprolol 2.5mg NIGHT.
Left uncontrolled Heart Rate.
Locum referred me to Private Heart Specialist.
Introduced Diltiazem 180 (1/2 dose) within 2 hours dropped from 156 to 51! I was scared.
Between NZ Healthline Dr there and NZ Heart Foundation nurse who had worked under my private guy, said Diltiazem AM, reduce to 120mg CD, Bisoprolol reduce to 2.5mg PM. Take your PRADAXA twice daily.
W O N D E R F U L.
Meds serve me by control H/Rate and BP.
I have an abnormal heart - Severely dilated left atrium. So no cardioversion, ablation or anti arrhymic med e.g Flec.... My Diltiazem works like one and safer.
Thank you for your reply and Metropolol does give me some grief, as does the Flec, in the process of achieving NSR.
I find it very hard to stay hydrated whilst taking these medications. Aligned with my heart working overtime and producing the hormone that sends me to the toilet frequently.
I have a referral to my specialist from Hospital doctor and I have an appt with my GP on Monday. We will no doubt discuss our plan of action moving forward.
I was advised I had SVT Tachycardia, which is not my normal arrhythmia( if there is a normal arrhythmia). I had an electrical cardio version of which I had one many years ago. It still amazes and scares me a little that the procedure can be over and done in a relatively short period of time. Cheers Cam
