Chasing up cardioversion.

So 20 days since I was discharged from Papworth hospital with AF and HCM. My discharged letter stated I would need cardioversion and a blood test at my local hospital in Peterborough.

Last week I rang my local hospital to see if they knew when I would get an appointment. But they had no record of me as no referral from papworth. They contacted papworth and said the letter would take a couple of days.

I rang today, nothing on the cardioversion appointments list, could only find a discharge letter saying I didn't require any treatment and signed by a different Dr to the one I had in my hand when I was discharged!

So tried ringing both my consultant secretary and this other Drs secretary to only get answers machines....

Pals informed, so hopefully tomorrow someone can tell me what the he'll is going on.... 😡

Are you already taking anticoagulants? You will need to be taking these for at least a month before a cardioversion can be done.

Yes I am, as well as beta blockers.

As Bod says, they wait until your anti cpoag have settled in - took them 6 weeks before they buzzed me the first time - I have had 9 +Ablation and finally PM

Hi, last year 1st June I went into AF. Sent to hosp by GP. ECG and exam by Cardiologist. Put on Apixaban anticoag and added to CV list. Waiting time 3 months and lengthening. Arranged private CV 5th July at Leeds Nuffield. It was £1400 on the Credit card, put me 100% well again and lasted 6mths. Did it again 14th Jan this year and Consultant put me on Amiodarone and thinks it will last longer this time. Fingers crossed now. I'm 74 and life's too short to wait for 3mths feeling drained waiting for the end of a queue.

I do feel for you – it is so stressful when different hospitals appear to be unable to communicate with each other effectively and you are left trying to sort things out when you do not feel well. Your difficulties, if I have understood correctly, are 1) Why did Papworth not send the referral to Peterborough in a timely manner? 2) Why are there two, very differing and conflicting discharge letters? And 3) only being able to get through to answering machines when you need to get clarification from your Consultant. I do hope that PALS are able to help. Good luck with everything.

So today Pals have been incontact, they say referrals were sent on the 20th Jan.

I have been unable to get through to Peterborough hospital, I just get answer machines.

So hopefully tomorrow I can get hold of someone there.

🤞
