Given your posted reading (135/85) and your anxiety reaction to it, sounds like you made a good decision. But hopefully you will continue to monitor it on a more appropriate and less anxiety producing schedule based on your medical history and doctor's recommendation. That could be as little as once or twice a year.
That said, for many of us, more frequent home monitoring is warranted.
Personally, given my cardiac and bp history, I try to monitor at least once a day and I find it produces less anxiety not more -- because I feel I'm in control and not my blood pressure.
