Thanks so much to all who replied to my plea for advice /opinions on whether to have flu and covid booster jabs at the same time. I am on my way to have the booster jab only and my flu jab will wait a while longer, I'm much less anxious now and no flare-up of afib. Thank you all! Tom

Glad you are having both vaccines. Because of the way we have been functioning over the last 20 months or so flu took a back seat and now I think that is probably as big a threat to vulnerable people as Covid. I have had all my covid jabs and the flu jab my wife unfortunately will have to wait longer to have her Covid booster as here in Wales in our health authority we were told the Thursday before half term that anyone 24 weeks post their second jab could walk in for their booster - I was nearly 7 months post second jab so had mine the day I got this information. Within a week they changed this as so many people were turning up at the vaccine centres it was causing back ups onto a major dual carriageway - not helped by all the families driving west for their half term holidays! So now my wife who is fast approaching 24 weeks post second jab has to wait for an invitation for booster - shame because we were hoping to go to my nephew's wedding in South Africa it should have been October 3 but the bride to be tested positive for Covid a couple of days before so it was cancelled. Due to travel restrictions we couldn't book to go in October but were hopeful now but not even going to consider it until my wife who is very high risk like me - but I am also much older so got in for vaccination first :) has had her booster. We are of the opinion now that she should just have walked in with me but can't turn time back.

“Flu took a back seat”, or was rebranded as covid?

From what I know of flu and I have had real full blown flu just twice in my life that lasts weeks it is nothing like the Covid my family and friends had - they were far more ill than I was with flu and some of them still are suffering long covid and goodness knows being ill with flu can be bad enough. However if people didn't get tested or did the LF test at home - which are not very reliable then they could very well have thought they had Covid as tested positive but it was flu. I do know few people who tested positive with a LF test but then had a PCR test and were negative.
