Pneumococcal vaccine

Hello everyone

I recently turned 65 and was invited to get the current pneumococcal vaccine (against 28 strains, I think).

Has anyone had this vaccine and subsequently had Afib problems?

I had it on Friday, felt very tired, a bit shaky on Saturday and am currently in Afib in the early hours of Sunday. Not had an episode for quite a while. Reminds me of the first two Covid vaccination side effects (passed in a day or so). It's a bit frustrating but obviously a very sensible vax to get.

All the best!

I had the vaccine but cannot remember whether it triggered AF. I do remember getting pneumonia about 6 months later and being very glad I’d had the vaccine.

I have stopped taking any of the flu or COVID vaccines as they made me feel really ill for weeks and trigger AF and felt the benefit to risk for me personally was out. I’ve had confirmed COVID 3 times and once suspected, most times the vaccine made me feel a lot worse. I was very ill one time with COVID shortly after taking a vaccine, next few times after stopping the vaccine, I was very mildly under the weather. There may or may not be a correlation between the two, just my experience.

Since being vaccine free for over 12 months now - no more AF episodes.

Hope your episode terminates very soon, take it easy.

It's said to be a very effective and helpful vaccine to have. Mine certainly provoked mild symptoms for a day or two, more than the covid vaccines have for me by far. It didn't cause any heart reaction, though, although my AF and ectopic issues were less frequent back then (3 years ago or so).

That's a good one, about the similarity of the side effects with the Cov vaccine. Many have complained that after having received flu vaccine, the effects were similar to Cov vaccine. Always the same stuff given to the people, under the different names?

Yes I had it with no problem. It is a one off injection I believe and I think definitely worth it.

Here in South Africa we are given a pneumococcal vaccine that is renewed every 5 years. I know thw booster I had two years ago gave my a very brief episode of AF

I recently had one too. I noticed no obvious effects e.g. no arm pain, flu symptoms etc but I did get a flare of my PMR the following day and had to cancel my holiday. I can't say I noticed any AFib as I've never had any symptoms, it showed on a Holter recording 8 years ago. However I did get some palpitations. These come and go and are mainly linked to eating too many carbs in my case, so I didn't make a link with the vaccine.

I have had both sets of vaccines for pneumonia without any issues other than maybe a sore arm for a day or so. I’ve also had the shingles. I am going to get the newer shingles. I just keep forgetting about it. the only side effect you might feel a little bit feverish or headache and I always get a sore arm. It’s better than getting pneumonia or shingles.
