Simethicone

Been having problems due to Pelvic Floor Dysfunction. Whilst it’s improved a little bit in the last few days I’m finding that trapped gas first thing when waking is an issue. I was looking at Simethicone and whether that or Deflatine would help me. I’ve got afib and on regular medication (flec and bisoprolol) and wondering if this OTC gas relief gel/tablets would interact with my medication or indeed cause palpitations please. Thanks in advance.

Best to ask your pharmacist.

I take Deflatine when needed. It doesn’t seem to cause my AF any issues.

Thank you

I’ve found Flecainide seems to have given me flatulence which I never suffered from before and generally messed up my digestion but it has put an end to atrial fibrillation incidences so “swings and roundabouts”!

Thanks Vonnegut. With me it’s a problem releasing gas caused by a muscle issue.

That can be really painful. I too have pelvic floor problems because of spinal damage. I've never thought to take anything for the gas. I woudl talk to your pharmacist.

Oh dear - perhaps my bloating is more of that then! And my pelvic floor has also weakened. When I was able to attend Pilates classes we did pelvic floor exercises but can’t manage much of them these days so also suffer from a bit of leaking at times but I am 80 and my brain still seems to work if much of the rest of me is wearing out!

The specialist I met on Wednesday recommended that I go on persistent irrigation. He is of the view that this will clear me out daily which should help the gas issue. Waiting on being contacted by the company that do this so I get trained and guided how to do it. I’m certainly open minded about it and if it works then great. Time will tell. Also getting pelvic floor physio which I’ll continue to improve the muscle issue.

Gosh! You get to see specialists! Very impressive! I still attempt a few of the pelvic floor exercises but use those pads etc that are for this sort of thing and, going by the ads on telly, there must be many of us with these sort of problems!

And what is persistent irrigation? Drinking water continually or what?

Predictive text changed it. The device is Peristeen Plus transanal irrigation

Oh, and what’s that?

Pumps water in to you and the effect cleans you out. As it’s only water there’s no chance of being hooked on it like laxatives/suppositories

I have both afib and pfd. Do you take any meds for pfd?

Hi Cookie. I’m on one laxido daily but nothing else. I have used suppositories if I’m struggling to go but thankfully haven’t needed to for the last week. I had my first PFD physio session last week and also got given the biofeedback device to train me to use my rectal muscles. It’s early days but things are a little better. What I’ve gone through was horrendous.
