braccacardia symtoms

hi all

I wonder if someone can give me some advice. I was diagnosed with AF a few years ago and so far my heart rate has been 65bpm when resting. This last 3 weeks resting heart rate has dropped to the low 50’s and twice dropped to 48 bpm. This does make me feel a little faint and sickly. Itake Bisoprolol and flecanaide to control heart rate. Is this just a blip or should i go a&e when it drops low. The other thing i was wondering is i have lost over a stone in last month. Could this be the reason?

Sustained Bradycardia and sudden changes in heart rate should be investigated. If you have symptoms - dizziness, feel faint and breathless whilst resting call 111 - sometimes a better decision than going to A&E.

You really need an ECG so please do make an appointment to see your GP asap.

Reasons are impossible to say without further information & hard data. Could be Bisoprolol, could be weight loss, could be you have an infection you aren’t aware of etc, etc.

what are your doses? just before and after my cardioversion I was put on both Metoprolol and Flecainide. I found that I was really sleepy and HR was dropping into the high 40’s. After a discussion my cardiologist reduced both. The equivalent of 1.25mg of Biso and down to 25mg of Flecainide and no problems. In fact I’ve now tweaked it down to about 1mg and 20mg of Flecainide morning and night. I guess it’s all about what is your resting HR in and out of AF. Mine in AF is around 85 at rest and when I’m in sinus 60-65 so I don’t need much in the way of drugs to make me feel out of it

If your weight loss was not intentional you need to see your GP. If it was, you may be dieting too strictly.

You should go back to your GP, cardiologist or EP with anything like this. Bisoprolol can cause this and it may be that you need a dosage change.

It sounds as if you are taking too high a dose of Bisoprolol if that is what you meant. The lowest dose of 1.25 mg was too much for me to take as it brought my heart rate down to the 40s.

losing a stone on weight over the last month is a lot in one month. Usually approx 2lbs a week. If dieting well done, but if not I personally think you should see a medic. It could be that your bisoprolol needs to be reduced with the weight loss. Low 50s is not too bad at all, but if you are worried do try to speak with your cardiologist

The docs don’t give me a beta blocker because my resting hr is sinus brady, even after the ablation. But that has been my norm for decades. Not sure why yours has dropped but I would assume your blood pressure has dropped with the weight loss…

Bisoprolol can cause it. Been there. But get yourself an appointment- preferably with your Cardiologist.

If losing over a stone represents a reasonably significant proportion of your weight it might need to be accompanied by a dosage reduction of your Bisoprolol i.e. current dose might result in higher plasma concentration due to lower weight, which reduces plasma levels too. However, I'm not a medical professional - just thinking logically. Best to consult with your prescribing doctor.

Hi. I take 2.5mg of Bisoprolol and my heart rate drops down to the low 40's most nights. I saw my cardiologist when it started happening and he told me not to worry about it ,as I had all new pipes, having just had a triple heart bypass, which is now over 12 months ago. I suffer from nocturnal arrhythmias, which are brought on by sleep apnoea, for which I am using a C pap machine to control. The bisoprolol controls the arrhythmias, by stopping my heart rate going too high.

If I try and lower my dose of bisoprolol, my heart rate goes too high and it takes about an hour to get back to normal.

I have tried not using the C pap machine on occasions, but my bood sugar level drops too low.

I have bought a SleepU sleep oxygen monitor made by Wellue after my doctors rubbished my Galaxy watch 4, which is quite accurate.

I am now taking Magnesium Taurate capsules, which are really helpful in controlling my arrhythmias.

The daily recommended dose of Magnesium is 320mg for women and 400mg for men, but I take 1000 mg of Magnesium taurate capsules daily, as they only contain 120mg of elemental Magnesium.

I found out about these capsules on this forum and I am really grateful for the advice. With a bit of luck I might be able to lower my dose of bisoprolol or even stop it in the future.
