arthroscopy

Not really asking anything, just sharing.

At last, today is the day I get my knee done (arthroscopy). Scary stopping anticoagulants for 2 days, but the cardiologist I spoke with last week did a good job reassuring me.

Op being done under general anaesthetic. Am hoping it doesn’t trigger an af episode, before, after or during!

Am glad it’s getting done before my ablation - which is hopefully in May.

Also had to stop the magnesium, and that is noticeable.

Sending you my best wishes for a successful outcome Tilly. Interesting that you feel a difference after stopping magnesium and I'm guessing that's with your heart rate?

Thank you. No difference with heart rate, it is with restless legs and overall relaxation in general.

Good luck. I can’t take oral magnesium period so I take topical magnesium spray for restless leg, it really helps.

I tried that initially and didn’t send to work for me, but I know it’s a good option for others x

Hi Jeanjeannie, before you started magnesium tablets was your level low. I want to take them but have been told my level is good so obviously will be worried I will overload if I take it

I didn’t check my levels.

It’s not an easy thing to check, you need a special test which NHS don’t offer and of course it’s only a snapshot of that moment. If you take oral magnesium the worst that will happen if you don’t need it is that it will go straight through so as soon as that happens, you have taken more than the body can absorb.

Ah, i remember reading that somewhere now, before I started taking it! Thank you for the reminder.

I bought a magnesium test kit on the internet and my levels were normal, but I feel that supplementing with a small dose of 80mg has helped reduce my AF symptoms. I also get magnesium through eating almonds, cashew nuts, dates, sultanas, pumpkin and sunflower seeds.

The seeds, dates and sultanas I have in my breakfast base of buckwheat flake cereal which I cook all together. I use organic products.

Now I'm wondering if I really need the added magnesium capsules I buy.

I think if taking the magnesium is reducing your AF burden I wouldn’t change anything. Do you take taurate or citrate?

I take 80mg Magnesium Glycinate from YourSupplements online alongside 500mg of Solgar Taurine from whoever has it on offer, all in capsule form.

good luck Tilly, you’ll do well.

I had hip surgery 3 weeks ago and was nervous I’d be back in AF after a successful ablation, all good so far. My heart rate is a bit higher but this is to be expected. Xx
