palpitations months after ablation

good evening all,

I am just past 4 months post my second ablation afib free so far (fingers crossed). I do keep getting the odd what feels like 5 or 10 seconds of palpitations, racing heart, skipped beats, adrenaline rush. Then it settles right back down, has anyone had something like this post ablation, my EP says that palpitations and abnormal heart rhythms may take a bit to settle down. I am just worried that these occurrences will lead back to afib. Any thoughts are greatly appreciated!

Yes. And I can still get them 22 months later. Usually around 104-110 BPM. Whenever it happens I stop whatever I'm doing, pay attention and breathe slowly for a few minutes. I sit or lie down. Them they go away. My Arrythmia Nurse said not to worry about them - that these little flurries might be par for the course for me.

Normal people without AF often get very short runs of added or missed beats, but unlike us with AF they're not tuned into them so are generally unaware. I hope that this is the case with you.

The supposed three month blanking period is a guide only. Many people arre still improvng at nine months or evena year.

Bob I know you have a pacemaker. I don’t know if you still get flutter or a fib feelings or if you had the AV node ablated.

My EP has told me that yes, it’s normal to get them even with the pacemaker etc.. I had made a statement to him. I swear I’m feeling flutter so he assured me it’s not my imagination. The difference is no more damage it’s just the feeling without what it used to do because of the AV node ablation.

I don’t get it very often and usually I have triggered it either by being stressed or sometimes even ice cream lol. It’s not the flutter of the old days that really bothered me. It’s just there and sooner or later it settles back down. It’s been proven by tests that my heart failure has actually improved Since the pacemaker ejection rate has improved considerably from in the 50s to the 70s and my doctor is thrilled. My EKG looks like a normal one should he said a lot of doctors would be happy to see that from their patient. I know you say it often and so do I that there is no cure for a fib. I have a typical flutter.my a fib has not acted up for very long time. On the 13th I have my first anniversary of what I call my new heart which is when I got my pacemaker last year.

I know some people are lucky and one ablation or cardioversion helps him for a very long time but I think most people need to realize this is life-changing and chances are it forever. That doesn’t mean we’re going to suffer like we do when we have bad bouts of it but it’s not going anywhere. It just gets quiet.

PS you mentioned how people who are doing well tend to not write on here anymore. It’s not because we don’t need you guys. I have disappeared off and on for other reasons, including the bug that I’ve had since the holidays that just will not go away and is still hanging in there a bit even after antibiotics. It’s just enough to make you feel lousy to where you don’t feel like doing much even going on your phone.

I still read and if I can make someone feel better or help in someway, I will still do it. I very much feel that I am a success story since last year, when I could not even walk. The thing I like to let people know though is it’s not easy it’s going to take time to get to the way that I am feeling today. They’re a good day and bad and I have been telling people is we need to get out of our heads I was very much into mine as far as my condition that is when my doctor told me he didn’t want me using devices he does not want me to keep looking at the app for my pacemaker because there are so many technicalities that can change our numbers but they are not bad so he doesn’t want me getting upset over nothing as you know our heart rate changes so quickly, even getting out of bed can make a difference. Mine is down in the 60s in bed after I am up and I take my dog out it’s usually in the mid 70s but when I was sick I actually hit 119 from coughing so much. Yes I was tested for Covid etc. everything is negative. Covid is quite busy in my area right now.

Thanks for all you say, and do

No not had AV node ablation and PM fitted due to 2nd degree block following four ablations. Glad things are good with you.

Hi I’m now 10 months post ablation and get exactly the same thing. Not every day and usually no more than twice a day. Happens often when I lie down in bed. I think there’s a good deal of truth in the advice that hyper vigilance makes us notice everything more. Very disconcerting as there’s always the concern it’s going to develop into AFib but so far so good. I have a 12 month follow up so will discuss this then.

Hello, it is not unknown that many experience 'break through episodes' following an ablation, but are generally short lived. Have you been in touch with the doctor? try to recall and record all the episodes experienced since the procedure before contacting them.

Kind regards

I had the same, although I also have had - at a much lower rate and frequency - ectopic beats for much of my adult life. My ablation, in 2019, was for atrial flutter, however, and I was warned that it might "uncover" AF, which it sadly has.

I think your doctor was right, though, and that these aren't lily to be an indicator of failure.

6 years post ablation and I still get the odd run of bigeminy or trigeminy , usually a couple of days before I go down with a virus. I use it as an early warning system.I feel ectopics daily but magnesium supplements have really reduced the frequency

I am 5 months post ablation and still getting missed beats and occasional fast runs for a few seconds. Not quite as bad as they were though. It worried me, but the helpful people and information on here made me realise that just about everyone who has had an ablation gets these, so they seem to be a normal occurrence , after an ablation. So I’m trying not to let it worry me.
