Palpitations post ablation

I had my second ablation done in Nov and have been experiencing slow and fast heart rate but I know doc said it can take theee months for heart to settle. I rushed back to work straight after my ablation and didn't realise the amount of stress I put on myself. I thought I was being stronh but really was causing more stress to myself. My GP had to convince me to be signed off for few weeks and rest. I don't think my ablation was successful and am a bit disappointed. I've had palpitations since I was 16 so been a long journey. Is there anything else that has been helpful to people.

Yes, losing a little weight and going gluten free has certainly helped me. My third ablation also made me feel so much better. Some people swear that taking magnesium really calms their heart and there's a well known cardiologist who specialises in AF whose posts are sometimes put on this site who recommends magnesium taurate. If you type that into the search box at the top right of this page you will find more information from earlier posts re this.

Hope this helps.

Thank you Jean, I will try the magnesium.

Thank you x

Hello Dreamgal and welcome to the forum. I'm sorry to hear that you are not confident about the success of your ablation. It sounds like you did far too much too quick initially and didn't give your heart the chance to recover. Let's hope that you managed to get over that initial hiccup and that you are now back on track. After my ablation, I was told to expect palpitations and although I had some, they were not particularly troublesome. It's still early days, so try not to get too dispondant as this will not help either. As you have a history of palpitations, your situation may be different, but I'm not medically trained, so I don't know, but maybe you could contact the Arrythmia Nurse at the hospital were you had the procedure and seek their advice......I'm sure others on the forum may have other advice that will help you....best of luck, John

Thank you John I'm trying to stay positive. I am seeing my cardiologist in two weeks so hopefully he can advice me. Really don't want to go through anymore ablation.

Thank you x

Hi Dreamgal,

It is still too early to assume the ablation didn't work, the healing process of the heart can take 6 months or even more. I experienced all kinds of odd sensations for 9 months after mine, have now been AF free for 3 1/2 years.

Be patient and look after yourself, eat well, exercise and rest whenever you feel the need. Listen to your heart.

Best wishes

Angela

Thank you Angela. That's what I'm hoping. I had my first ablation when I was 20 and I didn't have any palpitations for almost 11 years. They came back last year so got me all worried. Hopefully they will settle again.

I am more aware of my body now and try to listen to it more :)

Than you x
