Just to let folk know, I had my first ablation on Thursday. I opted to remain awake for the procedure and have to say it was a very positive experience!
I was in sinus rhythm at the time.
I had ablation on the left & right atrium as the electrophysiologist was treating AF and AVNRT.
The process took 5 hours this included mapping and though there was a little discomfort at times it wasn’t as bad as I’d expected.
Post op, a little tender in the chest area after walking but fine otherwise, no pain relief needed, the worst pain was back pain whilst laying flat and still for 9 hours but it disappeared once mobile.
Please, anyone that is worried about having an ablation don’t be, it really isn’t that bad.
I’m home now and making the most of the time spent doing nothing, bliss!!!

I just read your poem Molly, and see you’ve been through a lot to get to this point! Well done for taking another step forward and it’s great to read that your experience of ablation has been so positive. Do take all advice given to take it easy for a few weeks!
Great to hear +ve account of an ablation to give balance. Sounds very similar to my experience under sedation. I probably went back to regular activities earlier than recommended but without any issues. Hope you have a speedy recovery and are soon back to your normal routine - do listen to your body though and don’t over do it.
I think you are brave Mollybobs. I'm wishing with all my wobbly heart this is a success for you. I've not long had my ablation and it's all about Rest and Looking after You for quite a while now. Dont rush to get better. I've had wonderful advice on here and nearly everyone says read the advice sheet and then read it again! I was moved by your poem Mollybobs.
Be well and be happy. I'm a wife, mother and nan too. So precious, lovely lady.
Hi Mollybobs, great to hear about this as I'm having mine soon. I'm having the cryo ablation, is this what you had. I've been worried every day about it, hyperfocusing on the bad stories rather than the positive ones like yours so thank you for posting about your experience. Enjoy your rest and relaxation now 🥰
My Electrophysiologist normally carries out the proceedure under a general because you need to lay really still. I am quite a chilled person and do have a high pain tolerance though so was able to convince him otherwise, haha!
That is cheering to read. Thank you! Take it easy now. I was under GA for my 2 ablations and the sore throat from the tube afterwards was not nice. You avoided that. But 5 hours! Did you need to pee? I had a new pacemaker 2 weeks ago and 3 hrs into the procedure - which should have been 90 mins and didn't go according to plan - I needed help in that department! It was OK in the end though. Glad to hear your good news.
So pleased to hear you had a positive experience. I am due my ablation in a few days and starting to feel anxious, so your experience has given me hope. Good luck and l hope it is successful. Thank you.
