2nd ablation

Hi all - just an update in case the info helps others. My 1st ablation a year ago was a cyro (freezing) but they couldn’t do one vein due to phrenic nerve palsy. The phrenic nerve repaired fine. Yesterday I had a second ablation as still had af once a month. It was an rf ablation. Been on apixiban with no side effects for the last three months pre procedure. The procedure took 4 hours and they managed to do the 4th vein not done last time plus touch up the remaining three veins for any pathways they found. Felt a bit of pain an entry point as they moved things about and in chest when they did the burning but nothing too bad. Definetely bearable. No worse than the dentist. I had been given paracetomal and a relaxant through my arm before procedure. This time the catheters were removed in the theatre and i was given a temporary stitch which was painless. Last time they were left in till my blood thickened which took 7 hours and i had to lie flat on my back all that tine. This time just had to lie on my back for an hour or so. Then they sat me up for a wee while before removing the stitch and then lying on my back for 45 minutes. So much better ! Everything fine this morning. Am glad its all over and looking forward to getting home. Doc says can go back to normal after 48 hours but I will be taking it easy for a couple of weeks ! I’m glad Now I went for the 2nd ablation as feel I’ve given myself the best chance to be af free or reduced. I’ll post and let you all know if its improved my monthly af which I live in fear of. Last time it happened on Saturday I was with my elderly mum who has dementia at the shops and i hate getting it when I’m responsible for other people.

Here’s hoping this has helped.

Well done Elsie- you've been very brave to have a second go after complications in the first one. Rest a lot and keep us posted!

Sounds you had excellent treatment and now sound optimistic.

Excellent post - well done you and hope everything works out well for you this time.

Thank you Elsie, that’s probably going to be me later this year so very helpful. Were you offered a GA?
