Should I postpone Covid booster?

Gloriousgarden profile image
48 Replies

Apologies this question was asked recently but can’t find it now! Do you think I should postpone my covid jab tomorrow? Have been fibrillating for 9 days. Felt fairly weary to start with though pulse rate not above 100. Still out of rhythm but feel I am getting better every day and don't want it to speed up again! Was going to ring surgery in the morning for advice (unlikely to get anywhere!) so probably better to make my own decision, but advice would be welcome.

Sounds like your flutter will resolve soon, so personally I'd delay the jab so not to stress your body while it heals -- unless you have compelling reasons for the extra protection now, rather than in a few weeks.

Welcome to the AFIB club Glorious!

I know many are fearful of "the Covid", but my take is one of I do not think that the jabs help any. I have not had ANY vaccines since 1982 and somehow I am magically fine.

Take D3, Zinc, turmeric daily and you should be good to go. I have extended family that had issues after vaccination and would never take it. There is something wrong if people cannot discuss options of taking it versus not and one is demonzied if one does not.

Never b4 have the people in charge tried so hard to make us all take it. It's not even gone through the sorta kinda thorough testing previous vaccines had to undergo, so hence my suspicions.

In the end you have to decide.

Thank you, written in a clear and nice way!

Daily turmeric or turmeric supplements are not advised if on an anticoagulant as it can interfere with the clotting. Please be careful and take advice from a pharmacist or GP before adding any daily supplements alongside medication or with certain conditions due to interactions.

You would have to take something like 8g of powdered Tumeric to get enough of the active ingredient to interact. Taken daily as infusion or in food - it’s very helpful to reduce inflammation.

I agree that not a good idea to take Tumeric or Curcummin supplements as this may contain high amounts of active ingredient Curcumin - which could interact with some meds and herbal preparations.

Thank you Frances. I DO hope that if people are inclined to try something natural like turmeric, that they would do some research. Using turmeric, Vit E, D3, CoQ10 and many others are mildly anti-coagulant and so ADDS to the effect of the prescription thinners/anti-coagulents making it possible to have to thin of a blood so that one could have internal bleeding. However, if one wishes to pursue a NATURAL method of blood thinning, a combination of several does the trick. Look for my post on Anti-Coagulants posted earlier in another post.

I take NO prescription thinners/anti-coagulants since 1-1-2014

If you are concerned about colds/flu/ Covid I would buy a good nasal spray and gargle.

I think it is fairly common knowledge now that the C-jab can cause heart issues for some people, I understand even Pfizer themselves have published this outcome. For this reason, if you have PAF, whether during an episode or not, if I was in your shoes I would not take the jab in case it exacerbates heart issues.

I was banned for literally asking who was and wasn’t having the vaccine. I made no mention of my thoughts on the subject and there wasn’t any unpleasantness in the chat as I made sure to stop it. I was still banned. Apparently it says in the “rules” that there is no talk to be had about covid or vaccines what so ever.

BeeBee79 profile image
BeeBee79 in reply toElli86

Which is sinister in itself despite there being talk daily on here about various other drugs…..

Elli86 profile image
Elli86 in reply toBeeBee79

sinister is a good choice of words 🤣

So far we can’t discuss the vaccine, statins, anti coags and obviously no one can mention covid 😱 heaven forbid 🤣

BeeBee79 profile image

The government’s whole approach would have been enough to make me question it…..

I cannot see anything in the guidelines that there are banned subjects and cannot understand why some posts are taken down whilst others remain? 🤷

Elli86 profile image
Elli86 in reply toCDreamer

I’ve not even read the guidelines to be honest. All I know is my perfectly fine posts were taken down and I was banned. I was then told directly from admin that I was banned because talk of covid and vaccines is strictly off limits. I would post the message but I’d be banned again 🤣 and as you’re well aware dreamer I’m far from the only one this has happened too. It’s happening regularly and it’s generally happening around the 4 subjects I mentioned but also others. A lot of it as you know is to do with the trigger happy sensitive individuals among us who just love to push the report button. Maybe it makes them feel like Simon cowell on bgt? 🤣 who knows! Either way it’s a ridiculous way to manage things. Catering for the most sensitive of a group is crazy. That’s not how democracy works. It’s supposed to cater for the majority.

Had all six jabs, the original four plus boosters and the latest. No effect on Afib for me whatsoever. Just a sore arm.

Me too, the jabs didn't affect my AF but catching Covid put me into persistent AF

sorry may be too late to reply but definitely I wouldn’t have it while heartbeat is dodgy/fragile or you’re not feeling well. I postponed my flu jab for the same reason. Hope you feel better soon x

Thanks for your advice JaneFinn. I have now postponed the booster. No idea my simple question would open up such a can of worms as am new to this forum!!

Anyhow decision made. Thanks for all those who took time to reply.

😄 Haha! Don’t worry, I think cans and worms have been a regular feature on here for a while! And it was a really good question, one that might help other people make decisions if in the same position.

Welcome to the forum! We’re a very friendly lot, and there’s lots of experience and wisdom that people are kind enough to share. Don’t be afraid to ask anything, or to do a search to look at other discussion threads on anything :) Jx

Common sense

2learn profile image
2learn

Hi, just personal experience. My last but 1 covid jab put me back into sinus rhythm when I was in AF. So if covid jabs can affect heart maybe can affect it for good or bad. But not a recommendation. Also I'm more concerned about having flu jab which unlike covid jab does give me side effects, so I don't have both jabs at same time.

No one mentions dosage which is same regardless of body weight, so could have greater possible side effects on someone smaller than average size male that dosage is aimed at.

Cookie24 profile image
Cookie24 in reply to2learn

Yes, I want to know if consideration is given to body weight. Does anyone have information abd a link to medical studies on this issue?

Good question. I haven't seen it except for children. It is a fact that batches are not consistent, however.

The last two covid jabs I had gave me 5ish weeks each time of afib/tachycardia and as I’ve just had a pacemaker snd my heart took a while to adjust to it, I don’t want to chance another session after the jab

I’m a bit concerned keep reading that covid is on the increase again and I did have a bad time when I caught covid even though then I had had 3 jabs and I was indecisive should I shouldn’t I but decided against

Good luck on your decision

If you can delay till it's gone, you will feel better about it. I doubt the vaccine will affect your AF in any way, but, well, we've all read the stuff from those who don't believe this is a vaccine and that has put us all on a bit of edge, I guess.

We're having ours next week because covid is affecting several people we know and they have been quite poorly.

Had the booster jab just fine despite being in AF. It made no difference to my AF. Two weeks later I had the flu jab also no difference to AF.

All the best

I have never had any problems with the Covid jabs and was actually enjoying NSR after a successful cardioversion when had the first two and didn't go back into AF. However, some people have problems with the jab and some jabs seem to cause more problems than others as with Covid as regards AF so I would postpone your jab. I had Covid earlier this year but thankfully it was quite mild and didn't affect my AF infact I have had worse colds but I was left quite fatigued. Good Luck!

My cardiologist gave me a deferral. Worrying symptoms after my second Pfizer and I have since needed a second ablation.

As has been said many times on this forum it basically boils down to personal choice . People can argue the for and against regarding jabs and I hope it continues ,but in the end it's your choice and your body .

Instead of asking us non-experts, this is something you should ask your Doctor!

Elli86 profile image

You could say that about literally every question posed on this forum. If we all could or wanted to follow your advice then there would be zero use for this site.

Budken profile image
Budken in reply toElli86

Well like with all the fake stories out there, I would prefer to consult someone who has some knowledge than just some paranoid person. Maybe I don't belong here. I left another group " Stop Afib" long ago, after being told the only way to stop afib is to get an ablation.

Elli86 profile image
Elli86 in reply toBudken

This forum is most useful for support and for honest opinions from people in real life situations with first hand experience. Most doctors are not equipped with this kind of information or knowledge. It would be great to hear from a doctor who actually suffers from afib themselves but I’m yet to hear of any.

Ablation is a sensitive subject. I’ve had one and seems it may have caused more harm than good. Some people see great success with them.

The medical profession as a whole advocate that their patients use a health forum as a means of gaining knowledge and support from their peers who suffer from the same condition. I think that those who are proactive in trying to promote their own health are likely to have better outcomes. Nobody wants to userp the role of the medical profession. Gloriousgarden is only asking for the opinions of her peer group.

As I implied in the original post trying to get any contact with a doctor is a long and tortuous process. Lucky you if it is easier where you live.

Budken profile image
Budken in reply toGloriousgarden

Sorry you have such a problem. I get my shots from my GP. So can ask, when I go. I am curious where you live. Here in Germany, I can just walk into the office and see the Doc. No appointment unless some procedure is being performed.( not shots ).
