UTI/AF

Since having a kidney transplant I am bothered with UTI's which quickly clears up after taking antibiotics. I also have a PAF episode more or less within a day or two of this. Has anyone else noticed having AF when also having an infection? My potassium and magnesium levels are lower than normal when renal blood tests are done. I am just trying to find out what triggers the AF.

It should be well understood by now that any inflamation or infection in the body will exacerbate AF symptoms.

Yes, well noticed. Viruses and infections will indeed impact AF. Certainly has for me over the years. Other triggers can be what you've eaten or drank, not enough fluids, hormone changes, exercise etc etc. And it varies from person to person. Do you keep a diary? That can help track things. As long as it doesn't create another problem (obsessing over stuff).Sounds like you've got a fair bit to deal with there. It's not easy managing different and potentially intra-acting conditions is it? Plus the associated meds and appointments. I have found this forum useful but also bhf helpline if you have questions that a medically trained person is best placed to answer. Hope that helps.

Take care 🌸

I agree with all the other answers you've received. One tip my neighbour was given was to always make sure that she emptied her bladder completely. She had to go and then sit and count up to 20 and then try to go again.

Reducing inflammation and AF is the main reason I supplement daily with Vitamin D3 + K2, after a Vitamin D deficiency was discovered at the beginning of my AF journey.

I realise you have very serious medical conditions to deal with, but I do hope your GP or medical team has already undertaken a serum Vitamin D test. If not please ask for such.

Here's just one research article that shows the positive results of maintaining a high Vitamin D level in a wide range of medical conditions ...

You might need to join Medscape to read the article, but it's free, and I've had no follow-on issues after joining.

Highly recommended reading.

Good luck,
