Well. I got back from a fab day out with a friend yesterday and there’s a message inviting me for catheter ablation this Friday! Just spent an hour cancelling an entire holiday - travel, car hire, hotels, holiday let, stay with friends ….and feeling so heftily disappointed- but it has to be done.
It’s all very unexpected but the NHS are finding ways to reduce waiting lists in our area and I’m not going to argue. I have to be at hospital 7am and they want me home same day - yikes. Oh, and yikes again.
Thanks to everyone on this forum who’ve helped me to get my head around what this may entail - the best and the worst of it. The importance of rest and having everything prepared for a good long feet up. The so-called blanking period. Not to panic if the heart has a few more tricks to play nor even if I find it’s not entirely successful in another couple of months. Keeping on with sensible diet and exercise (when I’m ready) and sleep. And of course getting on with life. Next year’s holiday already at planning stage!

Search “Flapjack” under Forum Members and check out Flapjack’s posts, it’s second or third one down. Sorry I’m not sure how to forward those links. Let me know if you have any problems.
This can be found by clicking on “About” at the top of this forum page and see the link under “Contact”
Once in the AFA main website you can use the “Menu” on the top right, then from the menu “Conditions” then “Atrial Fibrillation” top left, then under “Treatments” click on “Ablation”
By the time you get there you may see lots of other interesting links to information also.
Would be nice if the forum header could have the main website link built in to it at some point. Hidden , just a suggestion.
Ah that's great news. Actually I think the less time to build up natural anxiety the better! You are armed with knowledge that many other AF ablatees are unaware of,which will definitely help.
I was only a day patient too,all was well. If they have any concerns, say if the groin wound is taking time to stop bleeding they will keep you until satisfied.
All the best and you can spend recuperation time planning your replacement holiday!
Xx
Great news Rainfern, even though the timing could have been better for you! When you feel able, please let us know how you get on, best of luck…….
I know exactly how you feel. For my last ablation I was called on a Friday and had my ablation the following Wednesday. The thing is I didn't even know I was on a waiting list for one. I'd kept in touch with the AF nurses explaining my symptoms and when a candidate for a new procedure was wanted they must have suggested me. I guess someone must have decided they weren't going ahead with their procedure. My daughter was annoyed at me for saying yes to a third procedure, but after it I never had a high heart rate again.
Sorry you had to cancel your holiday, but there's lots of time ahead for them and nothing is more important than looking after your heart.
Sending you best wishes for a successful outcome. Will be thinking of you.
😂 What did I say? If you really need it you get it sooner! So pleased for you and now you can look forward to a holiday without your heart spoiling it - hope all goes well 💖
Really pleased for you. It’s just how I like it, hardly time to get concerned. Sorry about the holiday but best decision made. With all that time to rest afterwards you’ll be planning the holiday of a lifetime. Hope all goes well. x
We communicated a few weeks ago when I had just been told I would have another year wait for an ablation. After all the support from this group including you, I decided to go back to the very helpful bookings office at the hospital and spoke to the same young lady as I felt she was harrassed at the time and I didn't understand why.
We had a good conversation during which she told me that the reason for such a long wait was that the consultant put me down for a GE, however the sedation list was only 18 weeks and I had waited a lot longer than that.
She kindly put me through to the consultan't secretary, I explained everythig to her and she offered to speak to the consultant to ask if I could have the CA done with sedation.
4 hours later she came back with a yes!
I am so pleased for you as I know you were looking at a long wait too, and you will get through it.
The good news though is that I have mine on Wednesday, also at 7.00am which I can't quite believe. also come home the same day, although it is a 80 mile journey.
We were both expecting very long waits and here we go in the same week!
Wishing you the very best of luck and a smooth procedure.🤞
