should I take extra bisoprolol?

I’ve just come back off holiday and I picked up a very Nasty bug. I had sever diarrhoea and a very high temperature along with chills and headache etc. it’s been really bad, was on a drip twice while I was away. My question is this, so my heart rate while I’ve been unwell has averaged 112bpm even when sitting or laying down. Should I take extra bisoprolol or just accept it’s cos I’m unwell that it’s spiked. I currently take 25mg a day

Two years ago I was kept in hospital with pneumonia and covid, my symptoms were much as you have described yours, apart from the fact that I had a very productive cough that went on for ages. I was given a higher dose of Bisoprolol as my pulse went up high too, was also put on a drip.

I'm afraid that we cannot give advice on medication doses. You could call the 111 no. and ask for advice.

Goodness just seen how much Bisoprolol you're taking - that's a hefty whack and I thought the maximum dose was 10mg daily. How about a call to ask your pharmacist, before they shut?

I’m guessing typo and the decimal point is missing.

Hope that's the case.

Sorry we must not comment or advise on drug doses.

If your doctor or nurse is not available (even by phone) would seriously consider going to A&E if symptoms persist and heart rate remains elevated.

NO please do not self medicate with heart drugs without the advice of a medic, you need to ask the question and state the facts, self medicating is a big no no, I did it and ended up worse off!

I have been told by my GP that I can double my 1.25mg dose of bisoprolol if needed, and, if necessary to go to 5mg. But that is advice from a doctor who knows my heart and condition well. You might be told similarly, but only a doctor will know and can advise. Each person's heart and health will be different sufficiently, and a beta blocker is a prescription only drug for a reason, the such advice can only come from a doctor.

Sounds like you have an infection of sorts.. and the body will ramp up the heart rate and temperature to speed up the response from your immune system… trying to lower temp or heart rate often prolongs the issue…

Keep hydrated check your temperature to see if things are settling down.. taking paracetamol will lower this… sounds more like norovirus with toilet issues…so boiled rice or egg and dry toast for a few days should bring that under control…

Common to pick up bugs when on holiday.. always wash hands .. avoid ice from local water supply that’s not been boiled.

Take Imodium supply vitamin C and zinc.. basic health pack… for holiday ventures.

I agree with the others that it’s essential to take medical advice. If you are only taking 1.25mg, there is scope to increase the dose I would have thought, but this must be authorised.

Hi

25mg Bisoprolol! High as I thought 10mg was top.

CCB Diltiazem AM was introduced to bring down HR. Now 60s Day.

Bisoprolol PM worked on my BP and 2.5mg was my dose.

No.

Cheers JOY. 75. (NZ)
