Post pace and ablate

Hi everyone…..I said I would do a follow up after leaving hospital for AV node ablation. I was kept in hospital for four extra days because of breathlessness which was pretty extreme. Eventually was allowed to go home still not feeling too good. I think they did every test possible to find out what the cause of the breathlessness was. I couldn’t fault hospital….but still didn’t pick up on problem…I felt pretty rubbish at home …I really thought is this it. Anyway my daughter was so worried she phoned our surgery and fortunately my GP who is superb…saw me …checked everything and hey ho I have Pneumonia, they did pick up in hospital that I had a crackle in the lungs but didn’t investigate…..so GP said if breathing gets worse or You feel worse straight to A and E ….so not the end of my story …..I hope that with taking strong antibiotics that GP has prescribed that I will soon be on road to recovery. I was pretty adamant that I didn’t go back into hospital…it was a mixed ward which maybe I am old fashioned but I prefer same sex wards. I am as weak as a kitten….no energy whatsoever…..I picked up a cough in hospital which I didn’t have before …so maybe I picked up the virus there. I think the pace and ablate was successful as my heart beat has stayed at a resonant 70bpm…blood pressure not so great ….which doesn’t help. But anyone having to have a Pace and Ablate I would advise don’t demur ………

Hospitals are great places to get ill aren't they! Hope you feel better soon.

Good god a mixed ward - crazy! I'm horrified, are you saying men were in a bed next to you or opposite?

I'm glad that your GP discovered why you felt so dreadful. A&E sent me home with pneumonia too, but gave me the gift of covid while I was there, so I was soon back in the covid ward at hospital, with both complaints. It wears you out doesn't it? Hope you recovery quickly, please let us know how you get on.

Best wishes.

I picked up Covid while in the hospital in late 2020; a friend picked up pneumonia. In your weakened state, and no doubt immobile from your procedure, it's no wonder you too got zapped. I hope the antibiotics do the trick and you're soon on the road to recovery.

hi all Thankyou for good wishes….I think I am recovering though absolutely zapped out …yes it was a mixed ward differentage group men….I was in the acute ward…I was quite shocked to see a fairly young man opposite me. I found the four days in

Hospital quite debilitating….and even though I have now been home 9 days the thought of going back in horrifying. The staff were wonderfully kind and did everything for me …and I am not complaining about my treatment …but to pick up pneumonia whilst in there wasn’t funny. I looked up info on mixed wards and it was supposed to be abolished in the UK in 2010…..but has crept back. So I will do my very best to recover at home the antibiotics Iam taking have side effects diarrohea and sickness …but I will persevere taking them to get well again. Hoping I will get back to normal again fairly quickly .

Catching something when you are in hospital is so common, it even has a name - nosocomial infection.☺️Get well soon.😏

shame on them for not following that up one of my procedures coughing actually pulled me out of my anesthesia in recovery and they had to give me breathing treatments at Cetera. At least they noticed. I had my AV node done the end of February to be honest I have just in the past week begun to feel like I turned a corner to feeling really normal. From the beginning, I was much better than I have been since getting a fib. My doctor does not want to keep me in the hospital exactly for the reason you stayed it because you have such a good chance of catching some thing. My first procedure is at the beginning of Covid. He wanted to take no chance best of luck and you are right about do not hesitate. The end of December I thought it was it for me and probably wanted it to be I was so sick. I have my quality of life that my stamina is still not there but everything else is getting there. No regrets about the pacemaker. They sent me at 80 originally because I had been running in the 150s and it was still an extreme drop. My blood pressure remained low until the past month. Two weeks ago I saw my EP in the house after having extensive echo and ECG. He told me doctors want to learn how to help their patients do what he did for me. They have invited him to teach.
