Hello, My doctor wants me to take Multaq for atrial fibrillation. Has anyone had bad side effects from taking it? I am a little nervous to start it because I am sensitive to medications.

I am on Multaq for 14 months now. I have had no side effects and I find its main effect for me is that my AF episodes have become shorter. They used to last 12 to 24 hours. They now last 2 to 8 hours. Good luck

ok everyone reacts differently i was on Flecainide for about 12 years till it stopped working - moved to Multaq main difference is doesn’t control AF as well and i was 1 day in in AF 3 days out , but otherwise few side effects - lower pulse rate in both AF and in NSR - it seems less brutal than Flecanide on conversion.

I’ve been on it for a year or so. It controls my atrial tachycardia quite well, though I don’t like the drug itself. It makes me a bit dizzy, particularly if it’s hot and sunny. As I love to garden, it’s a bit of a pain. But you may not have any side effects, we’re all so different. Best of luck with it!

The drug Multaq made you dizzy? I have verigo and I do not want to be more dizzy than I am!

I have a bit of vertigo now and then too. The Multaq only makes me lightheaded/dizzy if I’m out in the hot sun. Otherwise it works well for me.

What are you taking for AFIB NOW!

at the moment just bisoprolol and apixaban. I am not very symptomatic. Seeing the EP next week to discuss pacemaker. I would like to avoid it for the time being as I am a carer from my bedbound husband. Hope I can just get the rate under control for now.

Talk to your pharmacist about major side effects, and keep a log for yourself of any that happen to you so you can discuss with your health care team. One strategy for new meds for me was always to say " Ok self lets try this for 3 weeks and see what happens (barring any severe reactions stop immediately if severe reactions) - if after 3 weeks drug not working or side effects too strong then discuss with care team and look at other med options." You do have to think that your care team is prescribing a medication that in theory has positives that outweigh the POTENTIAL negatives. Wishing you the best
