I think its the drugs in general, I used to be an avid martial artist, training weekly in kung fu and stick fighting. Since my diagnosis I have gained weight, lost muscle mass on my chest and shoulders and can hardly run up the stairs.
Its not just Multaq, most of the drugs we AF'ers need effect us in this way
Multaq made me feel generally unwell. It caused very elevated liver function (ALT and AST) which gradually increased over the nine months I took this medication. Three weeks after I stopped it everything went back to within normal range. I have now had an ablation and no longer take any cardiac medication.
So you dont think its the AF causing your symptoms?
Athletes are 5 times more likely to develop afib than the general population
It's a case of finding the 'least worse' drug. Dronedarone sort of worked for me in that it controlled the AF but bombed my blood pressure. Are you monitoring this ? If not get a blood pressure monitor and you may find times of day when running is possible.
But I was glad to get the ablation done and get off it !
I'm on Warfarin, Bisoprolol and Digoxin I have seen an EP who to be honest depressed me further she really didn't give me any positives. She has reluctantly put me on the list for ablation but she said she would rather try and control my AF with drugs. I on the other hand would sooner have the ablation and try and get rid of Af and the drugs. Any thoughts Mike 11
I know some will disagree but I don't think you really can control AF with drugs, just contain it. If you are happy with proceeding with the ablation then go for it ! BUT make sure it is a cryro-ablation, not the older r.f. ablation which has a much higher failure rate. Note that you still may be on some drugs for life after the ablation though.
Thanks for the information I didn't know that there was 2 different types of ablation.
yes - cryro-ablation is much newer and significantly lower risk of triggering a stroke or needing another ablation later. Insist you have this, and get your GP to refer you elsewhere if your hospital doesn't have the equipment yet
I came of drondarone on 3rd of March, started it on the 3rd of January,it seemed to calm my A/F down, went for an E.C.G. And it showed I was in A/F.but while on this drug I felt very light headed all the time, and just not with it,my G.P.(who is very good at explaining things to me) wanted me to try amiodarone and I have declined this at the moment because it is avery potent drug, I have asked to be referred to see an E.P, I have only been of dronedarone for a week and feel better for it, I sm just taking warfarin, when on droedarone my blood pressure was up and down,I check my own at home, good luck
When I was on drondarone, I was taking 400mg in a morning, and another 400 mg at teatime, anyone else on this drug, did you take the same dosage, just curious?
As I said I have only been of it for a week, and feel a lot more like myself,I really hope you get sorted out
My husband has been on Multaq for over 4 years and feels and acts great.
I, on the other hand, was on it 2 days and was sick to my stomach. I just couldn't tolerate it.
