I have been on Multaq for three months and it has kept me out of afib although my kidney functions have been affected. Just wondering how long some other people have been on Multaq and how it affected their kidneys.

Multaq

Previous posts. May also want to search for Dronedarone.
What does your doctor state about effect on your kidneys ? Elevated creatinine level or other concerning effects ?
Multaq is known to cause up to an 18% increase in creatinine without a significant impact on your GFR but over the course of time it can lead to more serious kidney problems. If you stop the Multaq before serious harm occurs to your kidneys your kidney function will return to your baseline.
Have taken Dronedarone for more than six years now. A slight decline in kidney function may have occured but that has been put down to age (83 years old). On the other hand my kidney function has been completely stable the last four years and I have therefore continued with the treatment for my PAF. The benificial effect of Dronedarone has declined during the years but as I have no side effects will continue with the drug. I have not had any ablation performed and now have PAF one or two times a month with a duration of six to twelve hours.
PS, Just to add, yes it was my creatinine levels , i hadnt been complaining to gp about anything , but i had been running to the loo in middle of the night, been male and 64 i thought it was likely my prostrate or the big pee that comes with af, but since been on losartan i am not having this problem just as much.
I have been on and off dronedarone for AF for a good 7 years . Had awful reaction to flecanaide
Sorry , sent too soon ! Yes , didn’t get on with flec. Was on amiodarone for 14 months, then dronedarone post first cryoablation . No side effects , blood results are good thus far and has worked for me generally . After a year though it stopped working and I had second and third ablation . Now on it again . This time EP wants me to stay on it as he feels my AF will return as the 3rd ablation was not fully successful . I was alarmed at this as is still a toxic drug but as long as I’m regularly checked hopefully all will be well . I guess it will stop working at some point but I will cross that bridge when it arises .
I have been taking multaq approx 4-5 years now and just recently have been told by gp that my kidney function had reduced this past 2 years, personally i think maybe dronederone could be cause but i havent been able to find any info regarding my suspicions, i was put on losartan potassium and at 3 month follow up was told function was back up to normal, i asked nurse what could have caused reduced function and she said , well, you are 64 now, nothing about potential side effects of meds, adding losartan may be good help now but down the line can also be cause of kidney problems, its hard to know what to do for the best, im thinking if kidney function is restored does it stay restored and therefore would i eventually be able to ditch the losartan, i have to research this.
I’ve been on Dronedarone Multaq for 9 months for SVT and within 2 weeks it had knocked it completely on the head and since then not a single episode.
Prior to Multaq, the 20mg Atorvastatin spiked my liver but after reducing it to 10mg it’s back in the safe zone.
I get full bloods every 6 months at my GP in Ireland and they check not only liver function but also all vitamins, thyroid, cholesterol etc and I ask them to do psa yearly (I’m 56).
Hope that helps
Best wishes
