Hello,

I am posting this for my mother. She has Afib and her doctor prescribed Multaq and she finally started taking it. She thinks it is making her feel dizzy. Has anyone had this side effect? My mom is very sensitive to medications. Thank you in advanced.

I have just looked this tablet up. It’s an Antiarrthmia drug. Some of the research suggests not to give to patients with AF that cannot be cardioverted into sinus rhythm. People in permanent AF should not be given it. Please check the patient information leaflet.

As you know it's expensive but fortunately I get this free on the NHS in the UK. I see you are in the USA...

It has worked well for me over the past 18 months, had the regular liver and thyroid tests as well. I take 400mg x2 daily and weigh 180lbs.

I have persistent AF and was given dronedarone (multaq) for the ablations (had 3 last year). I also am very sensitive to medications but tolerated this drug very well.You need regular blood checks and they will monitor.

I did get dizzy at times but I get that with AF anyway. It certainly wasn't significantly worse.

The question I would ask is why they have prescribed a rhythm control drug? Usually (here I the UK at least) it's because they hope to get the person with AF back in rhythm, either by meds alone or using the meds to support a procedure like cardioversion or ablation. Is that the plan, do you know?

My mom has not had any ablations, they just want to get her rhythm back normally.

I had been on it for over two years. Thankfully, I had no bad side effects but I believe dizziness is one of the side effects mentioned you should talk to your pharmacist. I don’t know how long she has been on it , but it may take a little bit of time for her body to adjust. The only reason I am off of it is because I have a pacemaker now. The only beds I am still on our metropolol lol XR and Xarelto. Of course dizziness is something you must follow up on so that she does not have a fall.

I have been put on Dronedarone, the chemist has given me this version of it. If you are in permanent AF you shouldn’t be taking it.

I think one of the side effects is dizzyness.

I was getting bradycardia and was on Bisoprolol 1.25. Thought that was causing bradycardia. Consultant changed me from Bisoprolol & Flecainide to the Dronedarone. Also getting dizzyness when I lay down in bed and turning over 😳

The Dronedarone affects the ears! OH JOY NOT!

I have been on Multaq since end of January after a successful cardioversion and according to medical team it has kept me in NSR. I'm in the US where they tend to prescribe more often (I don't believe it is in as much favor in Europe, not exactly sure what the concerns are, so I take it with some trepidation). However, as I say, it has worked for me - for the moment.

However it has given me Bradycardia - according to Kardia and to Holter Monitor I wore for two weeks...in the high 40's low 50's in the morning going into the 60's in the afternoon.

A few times I have felt dizzy when walking or had tired legs but that righted itself in 10 or 15 minutes. My medical team has said I have choice to continue it, decide to try a different medication or get an ablation. But neither my cardiologist nor electrophysiologist seemed unduly alarmed about the Bradycardia - maybe because I'm generally asymptomatic, I don't know why.

But as taking Multaq only occasionally gives me symptoms of dizziness, I've decided to keep taking for now and have scheduled Holter monitor again later this summer - and go from there. But while my bouts of dizziness were unpleasant, they were NOTHING like the AFIB nerve racking, extreme dizziness I was having before I started taking it.
