Hopefully someone in the UK can help me out. We were hoping to go on a cruise soon so I contacted my insurance company ( through Lloyds) and updating them on the fact I have AF . They also found I had a leaky heart valve but are happy that it’s checked in a couple of years time. I then had to tell them that my doctor thinks I have a basal cell carcinoma on my head and is referring me to the hospital ( may take 6 months she says) but I’m intending to pay for a private consultation to speed it up. The insurance company will not continue with my assessment or cover me for my AF until I’ve had surgery to remove the carcinoma . Looks like I’ll be staying in the UK for a while yet sadly unless someone can suggest a good insurance company for me. Thank you in advance.

In general insurance companies will not insure a condition that doesn’t have a diagnosis. It is definitely worth having a private consultation to speed things up.
Once you have a firm diagnosis, you can easily get travel insurance. I have AF, a leaky mitral valve and have had two separate primary cancers.
When I was diagnosed with the first cancer, which was renal, we were due to go on a cruise 3 weeks later. The surgeon said that my operation could wait until after my cruise and that I would have no problems with it whilst away.
Insurance company said they couldn’t cover it because I didn’t have a proven diagnosis. The age old we can’t cover something that we don’t know what it is. What they did do was agree to exclude anything to do with the urinary tract. My surgeon said that would be fine.
We went on the cruise and had a fabulous time. I did spend a night in the ships hospital due to AF. Insurance reimbursed us when we got home.
That was over 10 years ago, so I am still here to tell the tale.
The insurance company we always used is All Clear. It is worth talking to them to sound them out.
Try Saga and speak directly to them . I found them excellent.
thank you for the reply . I was surprised as I thought they wouldn’t be too concerned about my BCC ! I hope you enjoy your trip.
Cookie 6. I have just been refused insurance as well, I was diagnosed with a trapped Ulnar nerve 8 years ago but they can't find where it is. Recently had another MRI and waiting for result, because of that I was refused insurance even though a diagnosis has been made.
I can’t fathom out how these insurance companies work sometimes! It’s ridiculous… my doctor says there's a 6 month wait to see the consultant unless I go privately. And that’s just to confirm the diagnosis of the BCC!
I know Cookie all I got was that she had a box to tick , was I waiting for a test result, the answer was Yes regardless of the seriousness so she had to tick Yes, End of the conversation! I tried various company's and everyone said the same. Good look with it because I've given up.
I’ll let you know if and when I have any luck. I think we’ve decided to use our motorhome in this country until I’ve had the bcc removed… then try again!
Generally the bank travel insurances are far more nervous about health conditions then specialist health insurance companies. Lloyd's would insure me. I had quotes from others as I had breast cancer & they were extraordinary high. Went with Eurotunnel. They were fab. So I'd give them a try. Don't be put of by Lloyd's they turned me down too!!

Hi Cookie6 this has happened to me this week too. I was rejected by my banks travel insurance and two other companies, one of them suggested another company I could try "Good to go" they are willing to insure me and also Saga, although Saga will only insure for a single trip. This is with PAF and a recent heart attack.
I think I would try a different insurance company. Yes eventually you would need the carcinoma removed but it is so common . My husband and I have had loads of thdm and never stopped us going on holiday.
I’ve heard that staysure are good likewise saga
I agree - my husband's GP cut out one on his neck in his surgery - sent it off for analysis, I had one starting on my wrist and just applied Fluorouracil ointment fur a month and it was gone !I see you are in Australia - I'm in South Africa, so I imagine our medics have more experience with them !
