I would like to book a short break away to Iceland and looked into travel insurance today but was told due to underlying health condition of AF I couldn’t be insured . I have had AF for 5 years , had 3 electrical cardioversions , 2 ablations , multiple medications , the usual really ! My AF is currently stable on meds , but I’m on waiting list for ablation no 3 which will be a good 12 months .
My question to you knowledgeable lot is which travel insurance companies do you go through ? ( I’m UK based ) I know many of you have said that you travel worldwide , even when in persistent AF so I can’t believe I will be excluded for all further travel ( I bloomin well hope not !!)
Look forward to your advice .

Try an ordinary comparison site and add your disclose your AF. It will ask about your treatment, current status and how many times you have presented at A&E. I never went to A&E, and my AF only increases the premium by a pound. A single visit to A&E, should not affect it but regular trips to A&E (or other impact such as driving license revoked) will make it much more expensive
I was happily insured with Staysure until I went on the waiting list for a second ablation. I suspect it may be the waiting list that is the problem - not the AF.
That might be your main problem. The on-line forms for declaring health issues normally seem to first ask you to declare that you are not awaiting investigations or treatment. If you are, then they will either not be interested or will want more details before deciding.
Most companies will insure AF. I suspect in your case, they are refusing cover because you are on a waiting list for treatment. It would be the same for being on a waiting list for any treatment.
It might be worth trying All Clear. They will insure things that no other company will insure. At a premium of course. May be worth trying them.
You should have no problems buying travel insurance. Our worldwide travel insurance is through the Nationwide BS .. I paid £113 to cover my PAF. You may find it prohibitively expensive if you’ve had an unplanned visit to hospital in the past 12 months. We did a road trip of Southern Iceland last summer .. it’s a fantastic country, enjoy.
Hi, traveled (flew) twice last year to Malta and Southern Italy, declared my AF...in fact over declared on second trip , as i put a regular hospital visit down as an unplanned visit. I got insurance via a comparison site and the end insurer was Avanti....cost me about £40 extra for the second trip. The insurance covered me and the mrs. Good luck and enjoy the trip.
I am UK based with persistent afib and travel worldwide frequently using Staysure. Never had any problems getting insured and thankfully never had to make a claim.
I've just checked for us to travel as a couple to USA and Canada, we both have AF controlled by meds, age 65 and 68 and Quote was for £1200 for multi trip - is that a good price?
Its difficult to say because insurance for the US is always more expensive than anywhere else and obviously the duration. I haven't been to the US or Canada since I've had afib .
Just took out insurance yesterday for next Mondays skiing trip to La Tania in France. I always use Staysure and travel abroad 4/5 times a year, including cruises and American trips.
It was £135 this time as I had to add a TIA to my list of ailments, but still good value considering I have permanent AF, DCM, Heart failure, liver failure, diabetes type 2 and am on a cupboard full of medication daily.
Living in Northern Ireland I do have the added benefit of having dual nationality so still have my euro health card. I’m only British when it suits and Irish for EU travel. 😀
I’m sure you will find a company to insure you. I can’t remember which one s Iv used in the past, post office was one I did use once!!! not the cheapest though.!!! but Iv always managed to get insured with my AFIB so keep trying you’ll be ok.👍

Its terrible as you get older,my mum is 88,on several tablets & would love to go outside the uk but travel insurance quotes take it off the table, something to look forward to!
The refusal is simply that one company. There are plenty of others who cover pre existing conditions. Stayssure seems very popular. DO make sure that you t ell them of ALL conditions you've had and presently have. As you are waiting for treatment, that could be the main problem. Remember they will find any excuse to not pay up so do declare everything. Last year my son went to the USA . He just used the insurance that was offered with his trip and it was only 2 days before his flight that I realised he hadn't mentioned his sleep apnoea. He had been discharged as no longer having it but they still needed to know. He had a panic phone round to find a new company
