Has anyone experienced kidney function deteriorating following a change from Warfarin to Apixoban
Apixoban: Has anyone experienced kidney... - Atrial Fibrillati...
Apixoban
No personal experience of this drug but must make the following comments.
1) Kidney function falls as we age.
2) The reason people have regular kidney function tests is not that the drug attacks the kidneys, but rather since it is excreted via those organs it is important to check that they are working correctly.
Hope that helps.
I’m not medically trained but as I understand it, Apixaban does not adversely affect the kidneys. However, because it clears the body via the kidneys, blood tests are required, either annually or every six months, depending on the patient circumstances to check that they are functioning OK.
Many thanks - I am having another kidney check shortly.
make sure you drink plenty of water 👍🏻
Hello ruuthmo I had my yearly blood tests about 10 days ago and had a phone call from my GP yesterday to say my kidney results were not as expected and I have to have them repeated .
I have been taking Apixaban for 6 years with no problems.
