Hello

Happy Festive season to all!

I am PAF on Apixoban for over three years now and had my first AF episode for some time a few nights ago.

Im usually rigid with my apixoban taking but cannot remember if I took it this morning or not. Am I at risk following latest af?

plan to take at usual time this evening.

thanks for any advice and all the best to everyone for 2020

Hi, this is from NHS website on apixaban. Hope it helps. I have forgotten on odd occasion or if I slept in etc and have taken it straight away with no ill effects. Maybe an hour or so later than normal. We are not medically trained and if still concerned ring a chemist that might be open and ask pharmacists advice.

What if I forget to take it?

Take your medicine as soon as you remember, unless it's nearly time for your next dose.

Do not take a double dose to make up for a missed one. Take your next dose at the usual time, and then carry on as normal.

It's very important that you remember to take apixaban every day.

If you often forget doses, it may help to set an alarm to remind you.

You could also ask your pharmacist for advice on other ways to help you remember to take your medicine.

thanks Frances

Last took at 6.30pm yesterday. just cannot remember so dont want to take double dose. Guess just have to wait till late this afternoon and hopefully no ill effects.

Try not to worry and certainly do not risk double dosing. Its quite common to be asked to miss a dose for extreme dental work, procedures and operations and we are told the risk is minimal. I’m sure you are aware of all the things you can do to help prevent missing a dose such as using a dosette box and alarms on phones etc. Most of us have done it at some time, so don’t worry. If it makes you any happier, you could take the next one an hour earlier than normal then revert to your normal times....

Agree flapjack and had just remembered also before my last surgery I had to stop apixaban for 48 hours and then for 24 hours after. No ill effects. X

Oooeerr......I think I remember, hope I behaved myself...😉

Have a great trip, might be challenging to work out a tablet regime to cope with the time changes!

Get the little day pill boxes.... and an alarm on your phone. It totally works.... if you can’t remember taking it, just check your box, if it’s gone, you have!

I was always forgetting!

I've forgotten and taken in 4 hours later. My cardio said that was ok. He didn't seem concerned at all. Sometimes I leave mine out on the counter to remind myself. Setting my phone alarm would work too but I just keep trying to take it within the hour. I've also forgotten whether I took it or not and I know I've forgotten. So at the beginning of each week I count out 14 in a pill container and I can always check.

I seem to have a memory block about my Apixaban, perhaps as it’s taken in the evening in isolation from other meds at 5.30.pm, what I do now when or as I take it I make a mark on my hand with a pen, sounds simplistic but it works for me, otherwise at such a busy time, prepping meals etc I can’t remember If I did or didn’t take it.
