2nd colonoscopy next week
Hi pd63 I’ve had several colonoscopies and was advised to stop for 3 days before and 3 days after with no problems! Hope all goes well for you !
Already had one, 2nd one is to remove 4 tiny polyps, wish they'd told me before the 1st to stop apixaban for 3 days, pardon the pun but it's a pain in the arse going back, procedure didn't bother me, watched it all on the screen didn't need sedation or gas and air, it's the prep laxative that sucks
I’ve also had polyps removed , you might find that you’ll need the sedation this time. I agree the prep laxative is evil to say the least!! Good luck!
I rather fear that colonoscopy could be on the cards for me before too long and admit that the bowel prep is something I dread 🙄😬
I'm dreading mine have a endoscopy without sedation and it was one of the worst things in my life apart from marrying my ex wife. So do you just recommend getting on with it then without sedation ? I take it if your in pain they will gas and air am I correct. Thanks
Ask them about sedation. They won’t knock you right out, you’ll still be able to talk to them. It just makes it more comfortable for you.
I had two colonoscopies a few years ago and this is normal. Be aware that they may want to take samples or even if they find something would want to remove it "while they are there" - such as polyps or suspicions areas where they want to investigate what these are. I was all clear from the samples taken on the first one and then went back to have the polyps removed on the second one. That one made me a little ill afterwards as I had sickness and the diar horror afterwards - starting after a few hours. I'm sure others have no problems but I would make sure to ask what to do in that case or if they could suggest medication if it was to happen - especially as we take anticoagulants and at the time I was taking bisoprolol. All they did was give me a number to ring which I did and it was after 5 so department closed at the hospital and a nurse who knew very little gave me very little information apart from - what did they give you to take - er nothing - so just rode it out until I could get to my GP.
All the best.
I recently had one and stopped Apixaban for three days.
I recently had 2 colonoscopies - the first identified I had polyps and the second one was to remove them. I stopped my blood thinners 3 days before the second. I had gas and air for the first - bearable but painful - and sedation for the second. The sedation colonoscopy was much more comfortable, hardly any pain at all. Best of luck.
