Bruising and numbness after ablation.

I had my second ablation one week ago today at the London Bridge Hospital. It seemed to go very well.

Heart wise all seems fine (touch wood} other than a vague feeling in my chest for a few hours today. Early days yet l know!

My main concern is the amount of bruising and numbness that l have in the top of the leg near the puncture site. On my first ablation l just had a small bruise in that area. The current bruise seems to be making it’s way down to my knee. It’s about 4 inches by 8 inches. The numbness is a bit concerning as well.

I’ve done search on here and on Google and there isn’t much on this amount of bruising.

Has anyone else experienced this and is it worth talking to my GP about it?

Thanks for reading this.

After one of mine I had bruising from groin to knee like a Jackson Pollock painting.

We warn in the fact sheet but if you are concerned ring the arrhythmia nurse . That is what they are there for.

Please don't worry! I had a double ablation 13 days ago..I had/ have spectacular bruising from groin to knee, all round as if I am wearing black cycling shorts.

Arnica cream is fantastic to help rout it.

I did have 6 puncture wounds instead of usual 2-3 but I am prone to bruising, prior to anti coagulants.

Best wishes for your recovery xx

Exactly the same, my second ablation was last week and first time around the bruise was almost gone by the first week, this time it is very colourful and heading towards my knee too. Can’t say I have any numbness and at the moment I am not too concerned about the bruising. As a side issue did they take you off flecanaide immediately after the procedure?

Had a double ablation in march with massive bruising in both groins. Don't normally bruise. Rang medic who said it was natural as they had kept me on apixaban throughout. No pain, felt fine for about 3 weeks then had TIA. Can't help but wonder if bruising/bleed was related to then getting TIA. All medics will deny this. However, apixaban can be a cause of brain bleeds.

I could be wrong about this but brain bleed I believe hemorrhagic not TIA ischemic. Apixaban can cause the former.

Hi there. As Dawn mentioned above, I popped a photo of my leg on a post a couple if weeks ago. It was a sight to behold at the time and took 6 weeks and the EU Arnica mountain to get rid of. By the time it was done, it was thigh to foot but bizarrely, not the groin. I contacted the arrhythmia nurse after a week and had to go in and have a vascular ultrasound in case there was a leak but there wasn't, it was just bad luck. Here is the link to the post with the photo (about half way down) but don't look if you're planning on having corned beef today 😁.

I have something similar in my left leg at the moment due to my launching myself off a curb last week........you gotta love that Apixaban 😁. Hope you have a speedy recovery.

Having had 2 ablations my bruising both times was only around 6 x 5 inches or so and just a small lump both times. I would get back in touch with the nursing team and/ or cardiologist and take their advice on this. I think the numbness should be reported.

Thanks very much everyone for taking the time to reply to my post.I’m now awaiting a call back from one of the arrhythmia nurses at St. Thomas’s Hospital.

It’s good to know that l’m not alone in suffering from the bruising - Ducky2003’s looked horrific.

I have done more searches on here and it seems that nerve damage may happen during the ablation which may be causing my numbness and pain. Hope it soon settles down.

Replying to stoneyrosed - l only took flecainide as PIP before the ablation.

Thanks.

Forget about Dr Google and call your doctor's office to report what you're experiencing. The bruising is totally normal. The numbness may be normal or it may need attention and that's why you should contact your doctor, especially if this numbness is now going on for a week. It may be nothing, but it sounds like it should not be ignored.
