Good morning all. been studying these pages for 2 years whilst in the ablation queue. Had it done on Wednesday and stayed overnight and slept well enough considering the relay of helicopters over Bristol. Got home yesterday and small amount of sensation in chest area but tolerable. In bed at 9.30 and by 11pm pains in my chest and could only take a small breath - using around 1/3 lung capacity because of the pain. Couldn't lie on my front, sides or back because of the pain, and spent the night sitting up ,. So i'm asking, is this what to expect and are there any pain killers to help. ? Many Thanks Bob
( I was going to add a photo of the massive bruise but don't want to be ejected from this group )

Some mild pain is expected but anything significant should be investigated. Best phone the arrhythmia nurse and run it past her/him in my opinion if as bad as you say. If it gets any worse call emergency if paracetamol doesn't help. There is often some irritation of the oesophagus during the procedure which extends into the area between the shoulder blades but shouldn't last more than a day or two.

Ah you've missed the bruise competition, some people say they've had them all the way down to their knee! Mine were nothing to talk about and after my third ablation there was no bruising at all. I've only once had pain, which was a few days after an ablation, but it only lasted seconds. Please get yours checked out if it continues.
Slept ok on the day of the ablation but second night at home was dreadful due to the pain and ended up sitting up as vertical as possible which helped a bit. Phoned the hospital at 8.30am to consult the arrhythmia nurse Got home but they don't take calls till 9am. Phoned my GP who asked all the symptoms questions and she said call 111 or 999. Called 111, answered all the questions and told to call my GP. GP said go to hospital it might be a heart attack. It wasn't.Home 8 hours later. Propped vertically on the sofa held up by cushions and a duvet Woke up 12 hours later, horizontal, no pain under the duvet fully clothed still wearing crocs and glasses and breathing in lung-fulls of fresh air Best bit was an extended yawn with no pain. The day is looking better😁
That's good to hear you're ok now. It's always such a job to know what to do when it feels like you have pain in your heart area. We people seem to have an inbuilt voice that tells us not to make a fuss, but it's always best to get chest pain checked as heart attacks can kill.
Wishing you a speedy recovery now, but don't forget to take it easy for a few weeks and allow your heart to gain strength beating correctly.
I had mine on Wednesday too. Felt ok yesterday but have mild chest pain today, front centre mainly, but as Bob said, between the shoulder blades too. I took some paracetamol about 4am but have been able to tolerate it since. My consultant rang me this morning to see how I was doing and said it was par for the course. If mine were as bad as yours sound, I would get in touch with the arrhythmia nurse. Let us know how you get on.
Wow ducky, you say your consultant rang you at home next day to see how you were. He must be one in a million, as I've not heard of one doing that before. How lucky are you!
Hope you and Heathcliff both feel better as each day passes.
Thank you. Yes he rang 2 days after (yesterday) He actually apologised profusely that he hadn't popped to see me after the procedure, even though he didn't do it. Apparently, he was on his way to my room, on his way home, got waylaid by nurse and had to pop in on another patient. He was then in his car before he remembered he hadn't seen me. I told him there was no need to apologise as I wouldn't have expected to see him. He spent about 15 mins on the phone with me yesterday as well. Definitely one of the good guys.😊
Heathcliff5815 how are you? Ducky if you put an @ in front of a forum members name you can then scroll to it on a list. This will flag up to the person that you've mentioned them. Their name will appear in blue text.
Hi pal. I see you had your ablation done in Bristol. How long did you have to wait?I was told it would be 10 months but now 14 months later still no word from my EP in Bristol.
Hey Palpman. I've Had the. Symptoms for 2 years. Refused to accept my Gp's diagnosis that I was 'getting old '. Different doctor got the ball rolling. 2 cardeoversions and more later got the call from Bristol Spire Hospital and had it done on the NHS. Coronavirus just at the wrong time delayed things. Hope you get booked in soon. Have you had the cardeoversions yet.
Thanks Heathcliff. I've had 3 cardioversions in Gloucester Royal over a year and a half.I have AFlutter so I got chemical cardioversions rather than electric.
4th night and a good sleep. Resting is hard work for me but feeling so rough by 9pm and feeling great by 9am proves the point. I want to walk the dogs on the common, mow the lawn, redecorate the bedroom, dig the veggi patch but must resist. Even making the bed gets me breathless again. A reminder of the past that I will get through again. But rest it must be. ......
