The episode came on dur ing my evening meal at 7.30 how long do i wait before i take some more flec? Ive just had 100mg so far this mornings dose x

in reply toKevinder23

The instructions are that you must not take more than 300 mgs in any one 24 hour period. You will have to be very careful not to exceed that dose!!

Hi Kevin, I took a look at your previous posts and it seems clear that your AF has progressed quite a bit since your first post. Previously, you have also considered the ablation option and maybe that route should now be considered because it is generally understood that the earlier an ablation is done, the more successful it is likely to be. Added to that, I believe EP's say that an ablation is also more likely to succeed if it is performed before persistent AF sets in. Bearing in mind waiting times nationally can anything up to a year, maybe it's something you should discuss with your EP. Of course it's not an easy decision and thousands of people manage to lead relatively normal lives with AF, but we rarely hear from anyone who regrets having an ablation...…..

Gonna wear it Christmas Day but don’t tell Beancounter, I want it to be a surprise.👚

I found Flecainide made my episodes more frequent and much stronger so I have stopped taking it. I am lucky that my hr rarely goes above 80 during an episode and my bp has fallen so I have stopped the Felodipine too.

D

Sorry about the diversion above Mrs Kevinder.....please let us know how you get on with the Flecainide. When I used it as a PiP it sometimes took 3/4 hours for 300 mgs to get me back in rhythm, other times maybe an hour or less.

Hi Mrs Kevinder! I totally understand how you feel. I was on Flec 2x 100mg daily for about 3 months but that did not seem to manage my AF well. Had more frequent Atrial flutters and palpitations felt stronger too. So I have now changed to Sotalol. Just early days on it (about a week) and I had a few episodes of ectopics. My palpitations felt less intense when it happened but yeah even sotalol looks like it won’t be able to get rid of the palpitations entirely. Am seeing my EP next week and I think I have to seriously consider ablation. Wishing you well and hope you too will get the chance to see your EP soon to discuss alternative if the meds do not seem to keep the AF at bay.

I think when I got to this dose I knew I needed an ablation. Now after 2 ablations I sm AF free

No 1 calm down. No 2 always take your

Medication. No 3 something is triggering the AF. Start writing down what you are doing not just the day you have AF it could be the day or two days

Before. Be honest with yourself. I also think it takes a time for the Flec to get into

Your system, are you on

Any other heart tablet or blood pressure tablet? Sounds like you are getting very anxious about your AF this does not

Help the episodes it could even cause them. Let me know

How you are.

When I was taking flecinide I started low and then by the end i was on 200mg per day plus bisiprolol but in the end the drugs did not work, I was lucky if I got one or two days without AF, so in May had an ablation and have not looked back since no AF or flutter

Hi Kevinder. It's horrible isn't it - I found the uncertainty of not knowing when my AF might strike really hard to deal with. Like you, I moved from using Flecanaide as a PIP, to daily, without much success. Had an ablation in August 2018 and, miraculously, it seems to have worked as I haven't had any AF since. I can't express how much this has improved my life and urge you to consider/re-consider the ablation route. Wishing you well whatever you decide.

Hi - I found Flecainide made my episodes much worse, so was given Sotalol and have taken that ever since. 80mg x2 daily. For many years it helped to keep the demon at bay

Hi I was given flecainide and I found my episodes much worse and I had to come off them after 3 weeks of taking them my cardiologist told me to stop I am now waiting for another appointment I was supposed to have an alblation on the 1st of November this year but while doing the test it showed that it was much worse that they thought so now I might have to have open heart surgery or pacemaker as think it’s to bad for alblation

Why not ablation?

It's only a matter of time before meds stop working. Flecanide always worked for me until it didn't anymore.

Has second ablation and it worked for a short time before I had to go on ticosyn.

Had third ablation and went back to flecanide for a few months. Now I am just in metoprolol for a while. I imagine I'll be getting off of that as well before too long.
