Moderna Booster

Hi. Yesterday I had my second Moderna Booster vaccine. The first one was fine. Second one: HELL.

Although feeling better now I am still under the weather but it’s just what I would call a normal reaction. Aching muscles, headache and feeling slightly nauseated. However, my initial reaction to the vaccine which continued (although I could clumsily walk - more on that) until late this morning I can only describe as HELL.

Violent shivering which lasted hours, racing heart with constant ectopic beats (I am still feeling them every now and then but that’s not unusual) but what scared me the most was I lost the ability to walk. My lower limbs were like lumps of iron. I could stand but not move.

I have no idea if the reaction I had wasn’t unusual (for reasons I don’t know the first Moderna vaccine may cause no problems but the second one can) but I am never getting the Moderna vaccine again.

Had my booster vaccine on Wednesday. First three provoked no reaction but yesterday I felt very chilly all day.

Had no reaction from any of my four apart from the usual sore arm. Had my fourth about a month ago.

I've had 3 Pfizer with no reaction at all. The one that did give me a reaction for a short time was the pneumococcal booster (here we have them every two years when you are over 70)- then, for a couple of weeks I had an irregular fast heartbeat for a couple of hours every morning - I'm sure that was the cause.

PengieP profile image

The only immunization I remember feeling off after getting was the second shot of the new Shingles vaccine. I felt slightly off the day afterwards. I guess I am very lucky as I've heard many people get quite ill from that one.

pusillanimous profile image
pusillanimous in reply toPengieP

That's interesting Pengie, as I was thinking of getting a Shingles one, they are quite expensive, but now I'm unsure! I've already this year had the Pneumococcal, then I had to wait 6 weeks to get my Covid booster, then I cut my knee and had to have a Tetanus, then was told to wait 14 days after Covid for my 'flu jab, so I'm feeling a bit vaccinated out at present, after 4 in three months LOL !!!!!

PengieP profile image
PengieP in reply topusillanimous

Even if you get sick from the shingles vaccination, I'd do it anyway. My wife had shingles and not only is it quite miserable to have, it can blind you if you get it in your eye. Also, I had gotten the old shingles vaccination before I got the new one, so who knows how that influenced how I felt after the second shot of the new shingles vaccination.

pusillanimous profile image
pusillanimous in reply toPengieP

Yes, I want it because my late husband had Shingles and he was really ill, so now I feel reassured and will get it probably next month when I'm due to see my GP for a new prescription and check up, and she can give me prescription for it and the pharmacy can order it and I can go back to the surgery and one of the nurses can administer it. Thanks,

Interesting. Since I have not had any bad reactions it must say something about me but not sure what. I never expect to either so maybe that helps.

CDreamer profile image
CDreamer in reply toBobD

It does seems an individual reaction. I react to everything and avoid if at all possible all vaccinations but neither am I reckless so with COVID I am very cautious but this wasn’t just a day or two of feeling off, this is chronic inflammation with intermittent, vague symptoms and just a sense of this is all too much.

There is s lot of research now looking at the dangers as well as the benefits of multiple vaccinations and I’m now much more cautious - less is sometimes more.

How are you now?

CDreamer profile image
CDreamer in reply toGrannyE

I’m good, thanks for asking. Just had several weeks of increased allergy reactions, chronic fatigue but all good now. It made me feel as though my immune system was overwhelmed- heard of several people who had that sort of reaction.

GrannyE profile image
GrannyE in reply toCDreamer

I had chronic fatigue about 40 years ago after glandular fever and I believe it damaged my mitochondria. I think that long covid is a version of that cos covid is a virus which like other viruses/viri(?) can leave you with post viral fatigue syndrome. Allergy reactions are one’s body responding, mostly inappropriately, to outside agencies and when it is struggling it can be react more strongly so am not surprised your allergies were worse esp as we are coming into the pollen season. Great that you are ‘yourself’ again.

Me neither as I had a similar reaction. Took me over a month to start to feel myself again. I still feel as though my immune system has been under assault since having the jab in Feb.

Brain profile image
Brain in reply toBagrat

Apparently, although I have no idea why, the first Moderna booster can present with no problems but the second one can. You will never know but perhaps you were fortunate due to your second one being the Pfizer. I have never had a problem with injections. Needles don’t bother me and in fact I can recall congratulating the health worker who gave me the first booster on her skill (I didn’t feel a thing ) but this time around, over and above the horrible scary reaction I had (now passed so I probably should stop going on about it) the needle went into my arm with what I felt was a thud, and it hurt, plus the needle seemed to stay in longer than I remembered from the previous three injections. My husband is due to get his second booster next week. I don’t want him to get the Moderna vaccine if that’s what’s on offer. However, he says that a bad reaction, assuming one gets over it as I appear to have, is undoubtedly without question a better choice than covid. Even although the latest strains don’t seem to be much worse than a bad cold. For some that is. He says he’s not leaving it to chance. He’ll take the Moderna. Okay then! Fingers crossed.

I was aware of some kind of cardiac reaction after my first Moderna booster last November but was unable to access any health professionals to investigate. I eventually got a referral to an NHS cardiologist and have an appointment in November (!). I had just about recovered by the start of this month (April) but then tested positive for COVID. Several weeks later, I’m still continually clearing my throat. In retrospect, I think I should report on the Yellow Card scheme, but I only have my own non-clinical perceptions of the reaction and it may have only been coincidental that it was shortly after having the booster.

Brain profile image
Brain in reply toIanMK

I reported the horrible reaction that I had after receiving the Moderna vaccine. I felt my reaction was extreme but I may be wrong. Perhaps my symptoms were more common that I believed them to be. However, I’m letting the professionals involved in the Yellow Card scheme come to a decision on that.

I can't imagine why you would think that. I do hope mine produces nothing like what you've been through. You've been very unfortunate.

One thing you can be sure of, it's raised a great antibody response that will keep the covid at bay!

Tomred profile image

Ppiman profile image
Ppiman in reply toTomred

That's interesting as my experience is much the reverse. Partly owing to my daughter-in-law's job as a nurse and other connections, I know an awful lot of people who have had the boosters and I don't know of any one who has suffered badly in the longer term as a result, that is, outside of an early and self-limiting response to the jab - which is nearly everyone with the boosters it seems.

More importantly, the jabs are preventing the kind of covid that leads to hospitalisation and serious illness. Those in hospital are either very old (over 85, often) and have other illnesses or they are unvaccinated and have other illnesses such as hypertension and the. like.

Steve

There are therapeutics to take now if you get covid. I heard people have done well with them. The Pfizer one was not available when I had covid but my doctor gave me other meds for it and I was only slightly sick, no more than a normal cold with slight fever for 1.5 days. I would only do the therapeutics, vaccines are too scary for me. It sounds like people are getting sicker from vaccine sometimes than with the virus.

I am so sorry for you all that had a bad reaction after the jab. Me? I am seventy-six, and have COPD, plus AF. I refused the jab, and still refuse it. Period. Caught covid a little over a year ago. Asked for and received a z-pack when I first noticed I was not feeling well. Took the z-pack, didn't feel well for about a week. Ended up with pneumonia, treated with antibiotics and I was fine. Did not have any other problems during that week of not feeling well. No trouble breathing and no coughing. If I would have had the jab, I'm sure I would be told "it's because you had the jab, so you didn't end up in the hospital". I just wonder who's making all the money off of those jabs? I've heard horror stories about people getting it and had a friend die within three days of being jabbed. Not for me. I'll take my chances without a jab and now I feel OK with natural immunity. Good luck to you all and, no matter what you decide or what your doctor advises, I wish you the best.

I also had a severe reaction to the second Moderna vaccine in March of 2021. First vaccine produced overall fatique and sore arm. On receiving the second dose, I was overall miserable and went into non-stop Afib. (160-180) Ended up in the ER and from there I had an ablation and a cardioversion. I have an autoimmune disease (Rheumatoid Arthritis) which also flared up after being in remission for years on a subcutaneous injection called Enbrel. I ended up with the RA markers going totally off the charts. Regular range was >30 and mine both were 129. Was put on high doses so predisone for two months to reduce RA inflammation. To say the least, it was like living a "nightmare". 2022 has been a better year, but it took that long to start feeling like myself again. Had a Pfizer booster with no reaction, after Rheumatogist suggestion. Waiting for four months to pass to get second Pfizer booster. Any one immunocompromised have similar situation?

I still can't comprehend why people call the Mrna shot a vaccine. It isn't. Anyway, I never had the shot and when I tested positive for Covid I had some chills 1 night felt achy the next day and that was it....and since I now have natural immunity I won't ever need any booster shot. Just my take on this, thanks for reading.

Brain profile image
Brain in reply toriffjack846

By Mrna I assume you are referring to Moderna. May I ask you what Moderna is if not a vaccine.

riffjack846 profile image
riffjack846 in reply toBrain

Not sure, I'm not a scientist but........According to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention,1 a vaccine is “a product that stimulates a person’s immune system to produce immunity to a specific disease, protecting the person from that disease.” Immunity, in turn, is defined as “Protection from an infectious disease,” meaning that “If you are immune to a disease, you can be exposed to it without becoming infected.”

Neither Moderna nor Pfizer claim this to be the case for their COVID-19 “vaccines.” In fact, in their clinical trials, they specify that they will not even test for immunity.

Unlike real vaccines, which use an antigen of the disease you’re trying to prevent, the COVID-19 injections contain synthetic RNA fragments encapsulated in a nanolipid carrier compound, the sole purpose of which is to lessen clinical symptoms associated with the S-1 spike protein, not the actual virus.

They do not actually impart immunity or inhibit transmissibility of the disease. In other words, they are not designed to keep you from getting sick with SARS-CoV-2; they only are supposed to lessen your infection symptoms if or when you do get infected.

As such, these products do not meet the legal or medical definition of a vaccine, and as noted by David Martin, Ph.D.

Brain profile image
Brain in reply toriffjack846

Okay then. It might be a good idea for you to pass that information on to NHS Scotland, England, Wales and Northern Island. They obviously don’t know what you know. They have been informing the population of the UK that Moderna and Pfizer are vaccines.

riffjack846 profile image
riffjack846 in reply toBrain

It's not my job to inform the government and I'm not looking for a debate. I just posted my thoughts on the matter and a couple of definitions I thought might be relevant to the topic. Moreover, since I have AF, anything that has the potential to influence platelet clotting won't be on my regimen ever, no matter what the government or media says. I had Covid and survived it, but I might not be as lucky with a stroke. Peace.

Brain profile image
Brain in reply toriffjack846

Same for the Influenza vaccine then. It doesn’t stop you getting influenza, just like covid, but it lessens the severity of the illness if you do catch it. So, according to the information you have gathered it can’t be a vaccine either.

belindalore profile image
belindalore in reply toBrain

The influenza vaccines are totally different from the covid shots. Influenza vaccines have the virus in them. Moderna nor Pfizer do not. So they are not vaccines. I too live in the states and have read the same information.

Hi Niki. That is very wise and sensible advice you have given. I think I am the one who has to take responsibility here though. I possibly drew more attention than was necessary to the message posted by riffjack846. First by my questioning and then by my follow up comments. However, I didn’t feel there was critisim of the government or media by riffjack846’s comments and I hope, should others read the posting, they will also feel the same. I just felt riffjack846 was bringing to our attention the scientific and english dictionary definition of the word vaccine and in doing so was possibly, (although he wasn’t wrong in his understanding of the word, and it was myself that asked for further information) being just a tiny bit pedantic but in no way critical of government or media. I was the one that posted criticism on this forum. I was scathing of the Moderna vaccine due to the adverse reaction I had after a recent booster shot and vowed never to get it again. When you have a condition such as Atrial Fibrillation and a booster shot brings AF into play big time, it’s an experience you don’t wish to bring into play again.

Brain - Sorry to hear you had such a bad reaction. I would never get one of these so called vaccines which really are NOT what we called and defined vaccines previous to this. They had to change the definition to include these. I take D3, zinc daily and occasionally NAC (N-acytl-cysteine) which the FDA here in America is trying to get off the market. It's cheap and does a lot for you. Amazon used to sell, but now you can't find ANY on their site. We have to buy it from vitamin stores.

I would agree with you to say no to any more of these unproven low track record "vaccines."

Normal older vaccines are studied for years before they are used. Who knows how the effects will play out in a few years. I personally know several people who have died of heart / circulation issues after taking these. I also had one uncle who had brain sweeling a week after getting shot #2 and it took 3 weeks in the hospital to recover.

I'll take my chances thank you.

I now have more understanding of my reaction. Re my paralysis: inflammation, ( due to my body going into overdrive to fight off the foreign invader) affecting the muscles of my lower back has been the cause. On a scale of 1-10 the back pain was up there at 9. I have experienced paralysis once before during an episode of extreme back pain. My doctor’s diagnosis at that time was that I’d had the Flu. To be honest I had thought he was just fobbing me off but now I am looking at things differently. He must have made the connection between the sore back, inflammation of the lower back muscles, and the paralysis. Calling it Flu, and maybe it was, was as good a diagnosis as any. I still have my fast heart beat/ectopics to get my head around. I want to gain an understanding of what caused my body, in its fight against the Moderna intruder, to react in the way it did this time around. First Moderna booster was a walk in the park for me.

Appreciate your reply, however you should look into all the footballers and other sports folks who seem to be dropping like flies post vacines, particularly after their boosters. My suggestion would be to stop getting anymore of those shots. Autopsies on those Italian folks who died early on in the onset of covid have shown that their vitamin "D" levels were below 20 on whatever scale they measure it. People who's "D" levels are over 60 seem to have very mild or no symptoms at all. Get your "D" levels checked. Daily intake of D3 5000IUs takes about 35 days to get you to the "protected" level, taking 10,000 IUs gets you there in about 15 days. My wife and I started on D3 as above 5000IUs at the onset of covid and never contracted it or any flus. I wore the required mask but was out every day amid people and we were both tested twice, once when she had a surgical procedure and once to attend a party in Reno NV., negative both times.

My feeling is that if you keep your bodies "D" levels and use other vitamins and such you should be fine. No so called vaccines required. As an FYI - I have not had ANY shots of any kind since 1982 annd somehow miracle of all miracles I am doing fine. I DO however take more vitamins, herbs and such than most.

Brain profile image
Brain in reply tosolarjdo69

I can see that Vitamin D really works for you. It does have really good press. I’ve been taking a daily Vitamin D3 for years. I never miss a day. I too am a great believer in Vitamin D3, particularly for the elderly, but unfortunately it didn’t stop my body reacting so violently to the Moderna booster or indeed put a stop to my Atrial Fibrillation. To each our own I think. Guided by our own experiences. I’ll certainly avoid Moderna as far as any future boosters go but I’ll still be taking a booster. There have been reported deaths from the Covid vaccine but the numbers pale in comparison to the number of people who died from the covid virus before any vaccine was discovered and administered. This would suggest that Pfizer, Astra Zeneca and Moderna (I believe there are other vaccines but I don’t know them) have indeed saved millions of lives. We have yet to discover whether we will all end up with long term ill health due to having been injected with these vaccines (as they are referred to) but so far the majority of us that have been vaccinated come through the experience with flying colours. Adverse reactions, if any, being short lived. I know these so called vaccines don’t give full immunity from the offset and that the protection they do offer only lasts for a few months reducing in protection as each day passes but I am eternally indebted to those wonderful human beings who worked tirelessly night and day to bring to us all of the forementioned, as they are known as, vaccines.
