I have had several Phizers but the last one a couple of months ago was Moderna.....no problems. I have afib plus a couple of other heart problems and am 86.
The arbitrary cut off points are just that, a line has to be drawn. It's the same with being diagnosed prediabetic, the 0.1 difference in the blood test makes no difference to risk, but a line has to be drawn.I've had 8 covid 19 vaccs, all varieties no side effects. The risk/ benefit for some may have changed as time has passed but for us golden oldies, I still think benefits outweigh risks.
I have had 3 jabs in total. I felt ill for a few days after the first 2. The third jab was Moderna. After this jab I felt very ill for about 3 weeks. About 6 months later I caught Covid and the symptoms were quite mild. For me all of the jabs were worse than the actual disease. I will not therefore have any more jabs for Covid. We are all different and it is an individual decision re cost benefit analysis.
So the jabs worked to reduce the covid's effects. I've had all jabs offered and managed to not catch covid. I have had many makes of jab, all with no problems. I was told that the last jab was Moderna, but it had a different name.
Very unlikely that they did as multiple studies have shown that any positive effect does not last as long as 6 months. Indeed quite early on there were studies from Scandinavia and Israel showing negative effectiveness at 6 months for the primary series.
I won't have anymore either, too many people reporting heart problems. I asked my GP about this as I have AF and all she could say was "we don't know enough about the vaccinations", that was enough for me. I have had 4 jabs but none since November 2022 and I finally caught COVID in January 2024. I had a headache for 3 days, felt tired and achy but that was it.
It is an individual decision. My nurse colleague hadn't boosted in almost a year and almost died of covid this year. Her nearby pharmacies had no Paxlovid! Her heart filled with clots and she almost needed a ventilator. She received powerful clot busters to save her life. I would take any vaccine, regardless of side effects, to avoid such illness. She had no cardiac problems before this.
I’ve had P/AF since 2008. The first Covid vaccine taken was AstraZeneca which was disastrous because it triggered symptoms of Polymyalgia Rheumatica, having thought was cured eight years previously. The second dose was Moderna which did affect my heart with two AF events in one week plus a general increase of them. This lead my cardiologist to increase antiarrhythmic medication. Because of this and subsequent development of Sjögrens disease, I decided to have Pfizer having heard it was less strong than Moderna but still very effective. I am happy to say I’ve had no serious reactions from the last two booster doses of Pfizer, the most recent being June 2024 NHS, only the normal little soreness for a day or so at the injection site.
Everyone as you will know is different and will react differently to medication, but in my experience, Pfizer is gentler on the heart than Moderna. I hope this helps. BTW, there was difficulty in finding a pharmacy that was offering Pfizer Covid vaccine and I had to ring round a number of them since invited for the booster before finding one and nearly missed having the it. Boots pharmacy was offering Pfizer at £90.00 but on enquiry none was found to be viable, maybe because they were sold out.
good morning, my health conditions could have been caused by covid and or the vaccines - this has been told to me by medical professionals. Under no circumstances would I ever have another vaccine. It speaks volumes to me that the efficiency of the vaccines even now are still been investigated.
A cardiologist wouldn’t at my hospital. I asked outright if I should have it and he said no!! So far I’ve had zero and never caught it…….
I was in hospital around the time that the staff were being forced to have it and the conversations were very interesting….
I’m not happy with the adverse side effects I’ve witnessed in other people and for those who haven’t experienced side effects m, have decided to not have any more.
There was a link somewhere on a government website where you could see the vaccine intake by area. The first vaccine was something like 95%, the second dropped to 50/60 and the third was under 10%…..
my very first Pfizer I was ok, but every vac since then I suffered with afib/tachycardia attacks for weeks. The last one I had the vac on the Saturday and had covid by the Tuesday. GP not sure if the vac caused the covid as I hadn’t been anywhere before or after. With that I went into permanent afib and pills not helping. Another ablation is an option but with a pacemaker and other problems 14 pages of risks.
Soooo no more vaccinations for me
I do know many many people who have not had the jab and not one of them caught covid I had them all and got covid twice
It seems to vary between people. I'm 78 and have had six vax so far, didn't want the summer one as will wait for the autumn boost. Have never had any reaction either to the Pfizer or the Moderna versions and my 3 Covid episodes were also mild. Maybe just lucky or my immune system was happy with what I was getting. However, when I had the Shingles vax earlier this year then double ouch. No episodes of AF either from any of the vaccines so it's difficult to say or to recommend.
I’m the same, have had 6 vaccines when called for, all Pfizer and no problems. However hearing about bad reactions for some with Moderna wasn’t sure to accept 7th. now made up my mind. deciding to skip this summer one and have what’s offered in the autumn along with seasonal flu vaccine too.
Very sore arm for nearly a week and funnily enough the sorest part was about three inches away for where it was injected and was quite red. I gather it is not unusual for this sort of reaction although as I said, I don't normally react to vaccines so not looking forward to the second one as they go in twos.
It may be a coincidence, but my AFIB started the same day as my first Shingles vaccine two years ago. Leery to get the second shot. Had no AFIB reactions with any of my 7 COVID shots.
My AF is asymptomatic so I never know if I've had an episode or not. I have SVTs as I have an extra pathway in my heart so I'll get runs of those occasionally but nothing else. When I was diagnosed during tests following my SVTs being difficult I apparently had low magnesium so I now take a supplement of magnesium taurate and so far so good. TheShingrix didn't cause any problems apart from what I already mentioned above.
We have yearly flu vaccines. We have loads of vax during our lifetime. mRNA has been around for many years so it is a known quantity. Some people will always have reactions to anything like antibiotics, vaccines, various drugs it's an individual thing. There are a lot of doomsayers out there but in the end it's a personal choice and I'm still fighting fit after six vaccinations for Covid, one Shingrix, one trio of dipheria, tetanus & polio and Hep B vaxes in the last 3-4 years
Hi foxglove, having had a major 3 coronary artery heart attack 6 weeks ago plus other heart and immune disease problems I had my most recent Covid immunisation just 2 weeks ago which I think was the Moderna Spike vaccine my only side effect was a sore arm for about 5 days
Thank you. It’s interesting how many have had adverse reactions. I’ve made my decision to not have this time and will think again when the next one is offered together with seasonal flu. Have a good day
Is your blood pressure above normal and are you normal weight? I have read that these two factors seem to be good predictors of getting more severe forms of covid.
The Moderna vaccine is very similar to the Pfizer one. I would be happy to have either.
I have no issues with the flu vaccines and had the Covid vaccines as offered. Astra Zeneca were the first two.
But I did appear have a bad reaction a few days after Moderna. My son also had a bad AFib reaction (he had an ablation during Covid) and he’s just in his 30s but had to have it for a holiday they were going on. I dithered about it at the vaccination centre as they would only offer Moderna. In the end I did have it.
Coincidentally, after the shot I had AFib events that were extremely resistant to my normal pill in the pocket 1.25mg bisoprolol. This normally reduced my heart rate and resolved the episode within a few hours. But I was having to take much larger doses and it took several days to resolve each episode. In the end I had to ask my GP for help. Together we worked out a strategy to try and knock it on the head. In the end I had to up my dose of bisoprolol considerably back to nearly 10mg a day. I had been taking 3.75mg. After several months we got it back under control but it’s taken me a long time to cut the bisoprolol back.
I’m currently taking 3.75mg in the morning and 1.25mg on alternate nights. So nearly there
I have no proof that Moderna triggered it. But I am wary about that brand for the future.
I am not anti vaccine. And I have no proof that Moderna was the cause. It’s purely anecdotal.
I have been offered the shingles vaccine now and was planning to have it as I’ve seen first hand the dreadful effects of shingles on the nerves of sufferers.
I think you have to weigh up the benefits of having the jab for you personally. Any vulnerabilities if you were to catch Covid.
Like Travellingman76, I considered myself fairly fit and reasonably healthy before I had the Covid vaccinations. After the third (booster) and having been Covid-free for whole of the duration, I developed afib and had to go on the medication which has considerably altered my life. If I was offered another vaccination — I will decline offer.
I’m in the U.S., so likely slightly different recommendations. I take meds for an autoimmune condition, so am eligible for more frequent jabs, due to that and being over 65. I’ve take every one offered. Most have been Moderna, the last one, a few months ago, was Pfizer. Nothing more than a sore arm and maybe a bit of lethargy from them. I did get Covid about a year ago. Took the antiviral molnupiravar (can’t take Paxlovid with dronedarone), and had only mild symptoms. I did get antiviral rebound after about a week. But everyone is different! Can understand not wanting to get them frequently if having a bad reaction.
Just wanted to say thank you all for replying. I did not expect so many responses and very interesting ones re Moderna
I have not taken up the vaccine feeling I am well at the moment and have had 6 back to back already. shall look again at what is offered around October including the seasonal flu one.
Coming in a bit late and haven’t read all the responses but my experience with Moderna was not a positive one and I can’t have it again. I’ve had 2 x AstraZeneca - no issues with my heart. 2 x Pfizer - my reactions are slowly increasing and 1 x Moderna and it sent my heart into an arrhythmia stint (we think).
I say we think as I have no evidence it is the vaccine. My heart has played up prior and since and it isn’t around the time of any vaccine so who knows.
I have decided not to have one this year at all and will reassess next year. I am also not having a flu vaccine this year. I am still a firm believer in vaccines and how we have controlled deadly diseases with them and I believe they are essential in our future too, but for me, I feel somewhat vaccine fatigued if you like.
