Is anyone on sotalol and high blood pressure medicine at the same time? My blood pressure is to high then to low, the GP is trying different medicine and dosages to see what works. I know it can take a bit of time to get the right meds to work. Thank you

Sotalol &high blood pressure medicine
I've been taking sotalol (40mg twice a day) for around 25 years after a diagnosis for paroxymsal AF which hospitalised me for a week in 1995. More recently, after a stroke 18 months ago, I have found my BP oscillating with extreme highs in some circumstances but the Sotalol generally keeps it down to very reasonable levels, sometimes very low (90 over 60 for example.) The hospital also told me to take Perindopril as I was registering 140 over 85 in the mornings. But I rarely took it. Recently I have been told that the episodes of high BP is due entirely to anxiety and stress episodes, and the normal elevation from physical activity, and it is a mistake to get concerned about this, even 170 over 100 after a recent medical appointment.
So it depends entirely on whether your high BP is sustained or just episodic, and sotalol should be maintaining your BP and heart rate at quite low levels. If however you have prolonged periods when your BP stays high, then you need to listen to the medical advice. Many of us get obsessed with checking our BP level too frequently and it is perfectly normal for it to vary considerably during the day, and particularly when attending a medical appointment (white coat syndrome). If you don't already do it, taking your BP three times a day at set times (morning, afternoon, evening) with three readings a few minutes apart when you are fully relaxed and at rest, should give you an accurate assessment of what your BP actually 'is'.
I thought sotalol was only for rate control and/or irregular beats, not high blood pressure. I am taking sotalol and eliquis because of AF. I have high blood pressure as well as AF, and I am prescribed 4(!) other meds for it, 2 diuretics (one is potassium-sparing), lisinopril and carvedilol. When I googled sotalol, I saw nothing that stated it was used for high blood pressure, though anything is possible.
